Once a mining town, the resort area of Schladming is a playground for expert skiers and snowboarders. Four interlinked mountains feature world-class runs and exquisite off-piste opportunities. When the sun goes down, the slopes heat up with night skiers looking to keep their adrenaline pumping after hours. Accommodations range from quirky cabins to rustic lodges to supersized resorts, all heavy on the Austrian charm.

THE FOOD: recommendable. Even me as a local I loved it! Had the "Tischlerei soup" which is a mix of many Austrian soups - very good. As a main I can recommend the Bull ("Schulterscherzel") - it was a very soft meat (cooked for 48hrs). As a desert we had the flower pot which reminded me of Pana Cotta.
THE SERVICE: very friendly and attentive. Waitresses serve in the typical Austrian dress ("Dirndl").
THE VENUE: very pretty. They managed to incorporate modern interior design into the Austrian wooden style.

We visited this mountain restaurant whilst walking at Rittisberg, but it is just as easily accessible in the winter if you are cross country skiing. Friendly family run service, with the son occasionally entertaining with the accordion between serving and clearing tables. Good food at reasonable prices. There looks to be good quality and value accommodation available in adjacent buildings. All in all a fabulous Austrian mountain hut and worth a visit. Don't expect to drive here, though there is a dirt road available for the special occasions that they offer.

Staying in Schladming this was a fair taxi ride from our apartment but worth the trip. Very authentic Austrian restaurant filled with locals. A warm welcome and great service followed. We enjoyed the fish and local starters followed by several different venison dishes all delicious with fabulous almond croquettes. Some had the goulash which was equally tasty, filling and well presented ... The only criticism was the main courses arrived almost as we finished our starters with no break ...worth a visit but off the beaten track!!!!!

We visited this cafe /bar both in day and evening. In the day we shared a pizza for lunch which was good! One night we went to the bar, the staff were extremely friendly and great service. This is based in the main centre in the town. Also reasonably priced!

First day in Schladming, didn't know where to go, on the street saw the restaurant and went in cause it was almost full. The dishes were good, the prices were fair, and staff was nice.

Booked in here after trying Julia's and wasn't disappointed. Different menu, more formal dining experience, with waitresses in traditional costume. The food was excellent, the steak perfectly cooked. Others had Wiener schnitzel which were ok and the only reason for the down grade. Definitely worth a visit, decor is interesting with some good wines.

Wanted some steaks so we went to the steakhouse Friesacher. The restaurant is quit small, but very cosy and you're not in doubt that you're in Tirol, when getting inside. The waitress was very sweet and we ordered both chateau briand and some ripeyes. Both cut was very nice cooked and juicy. On the side was broccoli, corn rolls, bearnaise sauce (butter estragon sauce) and French fries. Total for party of 5 incl a nice carbanet was a fair €230
Would differently visit again

We dined at Arx twice during our recent stay at Rohrmoos and the food and service were both first class. The room is modern but in keeping with the style and quality which Austria frequently offers. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. The hotel also looks most comfortable.

The bakers is also split into two cafes, one for smokers, one for non smokers (Austria still allows this), Thankfully the non smoking part has a spectacular blown up photograph of the Ennstal valley viewed from above, stretching from the Dachstein over to the Grimming. Coffee, as most places in Austria is superb, good service, delicious cakes or snacks/small meals are also available. At the beginning of the main town square opposite the medieval town gate.
