Teotihuacán is a town and municipality located in the State of Mexico. It is in the northeast of the Valley of Mexico, 45 km northeast of Mexico City and 119 km from the state capital of Toluca. Teotihuacan takes its name from the ancient city and World Heritage site that is located next to the municipal seat. "Teotihuacan" is from Nahuatl and means "place of the gods." In Nahua mythology the sun and the moon were created here. The seal of the municipality features the Pyramid of the Sun from the archeological site, which represents the four cardinal directions. The building is tied to a character that represents water which is linked to an arm that is joined to the head of an indigenous person who is seated and speaking. This person represents a god. Much of the history of the area has been tied to the ancient city, most recently involves controversy connected with commerce and development around the site.

Underground restaurant located in a natural cave, since 1906. Behind the pyramid of the sun in Teotihuacán. We want to take our guest on a unique and entertaining cultural experience. Reliving the gastronomy, legends and traditions of teotihuacán"s culture. Our goal is to take you on a journey trough the flavors of Mexico, it's ingredients, recipes and culinary techniques.
Visited this restaurant while at Teotihuacan. (It's just outside Gate 2 opposite the Pyramid of the Sun, then turn left then turn right only several metres down the road and you'll see the signs to the left about 50 metres down this road.)
The place is novel because it's in a cave. It has a good atmosphere about it.
The menu has a good selection of choices, mainly Mexican food, service is good and the food was fine. But the real reason to go is the unique atmosphere.
The prices are at the higher end but not too bad, 240 to 350 Pesos is the range for the main meals.
If you're looking for something different or a treat and near Teotihuacan it's worth considering.

Disfrute de nuestra gastronomía regional mexicana, de una hermosa vista de día y un romántico atardecer.
The restaurants in the park's area close early. Mayahuel included. We had to make special arrangements for our group. It was an easy process!!! The staff received our deposit and were ready for us when we arrived. We ordered food a la carte. It was served on time, warm and delicious. Wifi was good. At the end of our visit, they refunded the deposit. Very honest people! Service was great and food was too.

Just a terrible buffet. It looks more like a dinner buffet rather than breakfast. There was even a big table full of Deserts. Deserts for breakfast!!?
Some eggs I order to the table, (because there weren't regular eggs in the buffet, just some mixed with sausages), were bad.
The place is not cozy. The usual turisty place but in a negative way.

Near archeological site BUT NOT INSIDE as claimed. Very simple Hotel and room. No heating or cooling. Expensive food but my dish seemed recycled. Practically no wifi. Better alternatives in various villages, esp San Sebastián.

A very eclectically decorated restaurant, with a menu well diversified. Great service, with the attention to details that you'll only receive in very expensive and fancy establishments. Fruit flavor ice creams are served inside the actual fruits (orange, pineapple, apple, etc). A highly recommended place to eat when visiting the pyramids!

I took my family here while they visited from Guadalajara and Miami on December 27, a day which was exceptionally crowded at the pyramids. We had lunch here at 3 pm. When we got here, the hostess tried to send us, a group of 8, away, saying the waiters were tired and too busy. We pushed and sat down and then were given free beers or limonada or water. Waiters were prompt and super helpful and nice. We ordered soups (it was getting cold late in the day) and main dishes which were enormous and quite good. We did not stick around for dessert as it was already dark and cold. Great stop that we made as La Gruta was full with a two hour wait and we did not want to wait and eat when we got back to Mexico City. Other than the oddball hostess, great place.

This place looks nice from the outside, but the food it's super expensive and the food it's not for what you paid for, I order 3 quesadillas and they bring super small quesadillas for the price of 100 pesos!!...I'm Mexican and there are better restaurants in the area, this is the worst I had ever been, it looks fancy but all food it's very bad, even the buffet it's so horrible, I recomend not to go there, it's better go around to the restaurants were the people go to your car inviting you to sit in their places, big quesadillas with lots of delicious food for a good price 20 pesos for each quesadilla, and real Mexican food for very cheap price, this Tlacael restauarnt it's only a screen of a good place but it's not.

In addition to great food on Tuesdays and Thursdays you can get 2 for 1. That make the already good food prices even better. There are right in the heart of San Juan Teotihuacan. They deliver as well. Be sure to try the beer with salt on the rim of the glass, yummmmm.
