Things to do in Saint-Hubert

On a Tuesday evening there were not many places open in Saint Hubert so we chose the Basilic by default. But we need not have worried as the food was excellent-my husband had a 'sampler' main course which was a selection of delights, both hot and cold and I had a divine imaginative salad, both served on slate 'plates'. The bistro filled up during the evening and there was a very nice atmosphere looking onto the abbaye square.
Unfortunately, the service did not match up to the food. There was only one table in the bistro before us but the waitress took a long time to come with menus, was grumpy and humourless. We speak adequate French so language was not the problem. The main niggle was at the end-the beers we had had were several euros more expensive than stated on the beer list so we queried this. Apparently, they only had bigger bottles and had not printed new menus. We pointed that it would be very easy to change the pricing as other restaurants do but that was received with a shrug of the shoulders.
My other grump about Belgian restaurants (including this one) is their refusal to provide tap water in a carafe. You have to pay for bottled water which I object to. Our guest house owner explained that this is normal but I don't understand why.

I guess we just expected more due to the overall very positive reviews. The fish, meat, and accompanying sauces were ok at best. On the positive side, our kids' chicken (which rather seemed to be a bony rooster though), fries, and apple compote were fresh -- quite exceptiional for a kids' menu these days.

It was really a journey, not just a meal. I have been there during the hunting season thus I was proposed to try something outside the menu. As the menu was in French and the oral proposition in English it had already an advantage :) at the end it was a best meal I have ever ate in Belgium and I am visiting here a lot :) pâté with great marmalade, "Halloween" (this was a word for pumpkin) soup with little tomatoes as a hidden treasure and great deer main course. It was so delicious!!!!

Estaminet-Taverne Brasserie-Restaurant Ambiance relax-Music Forest decoration (For the respect for the customers: quiet children please)
Having business in Saint-Hubert we were looking for a quick lunch. Lots of restaurant near the basilica, but we were attracted by a small window on the corner of the Place du Marché. It was a little restaurant with an amazing decoration. When entering there...MoreWelcome in Belgium!

Restaurant et brasserie de cuisine traditionnelle, de terroir, confectionnée avec des produits frais
We only went here for a drink, we were visiting the open air museum, which made us thirsty. This is the perfect place to enjoy a drink while visiting the museum. The building is fantastic, it puts you in an atmosphere of times long gone... As said, we only went for a drink so I can't say a thing about how good the kitchen is, but the choice of local beers is great and prices are good value for money, service was quick and friendly and I wished we had the time to go for dinner here, loved to have stayed longer in that ambiance!

Great place to be : Loads of athmosphere ,friendly reception : Xavier takes care of you - truly , he cares and makes sure that you are served efficiently but with a lovely smile and lots of good humour! The locals come in and have a beer and a chat with Yves, who towers over the bar.On the menu: a nice selection of first courses with lots of local produce and for the maincourse mainly beef . We tasted the T-bone steak for 2 :succulent ! what we did not eat went home with us packed in a neat container.
We will certainly return !

Open Every Days.
While we were at this restaurant we should have guessed that the thing to order was only pizza, because this is what most customers seemed to be eating. And indeed, the pizza I ordered was decent, with a nice crust, while my daughter's pasta were soaked in a watery tasteless tomato sauce. The worst thing was the service, though. The young waitress gave us the wrong information about kids portions, then she came with an adult dish for my child, and denied she ever said it could be served as a smaller dish, then said what can I say except I am sorry ("Do you want me to eat it?", she added... Helllooooo??) Anyway, at the end she gave us a discount, but I thought the whole thing was really rude. Bad attitude.

Settled in the middle of the woods, close to the wild parc, a nice place to eat or have a drink, as wel in winter (covered terrass as in summer, open terras).

The waiter maybe need someone to help him from time to time , but it was a really nice moment.
The price was from my believe little bit to high but ...Money is not everything.
