Walk atop Rothenburg’s city walls or climb to the top of the town hall for great views. The Night Watchman tour is an unforgettable way to learn the city’s history. And our travelers also recommend the Medieval Crime Museum (Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum)—it’s gruesome but fascinating.

We were seated at a community table, our waitress spoke excellent English. One couple had their big dog at the table. Had the schnitzel and spätzle and sausage with sauerkraut, both dishes were nicely portioned and tasty. It's just a block off the marketplatz, good...MoreThank you very much.

Located down Herrengasse from the main square toward the Burgtor, Kosterstuble has as much “local” atmosphere as you could ever ask for from the painted figures on the wall, easy-on-the-eyes lighting, very friendly owners/waitstaff, and excellent local cuisine! Love their local sauerbraten with kartofelknodeln...really tasty sauce. Nice pancake strip soup in a nice stock. Very reasonable wine list and tab! Lovely Christmas decorations. The real deal.

Traveling for business one of our vendors took us here for a one of a kind dinner! Our group of 8 sat in the cellar with a gigantic fire bellows as our table! We got as an appetizer the most impressive cheese spread I'd ever seen! Most of us ordered the meat skewer only better than the presentation of the dish was the taste - perfectly cooked and seasoned! Several beers and digestives were enjoyed as well. The house, food and ambiance of this place makes it a must do in Rothenburg o.d.T.

We had more expectations, as for people's comments. The hostess is really nice and smiley. Sashimi and ramen were the best we ordered. Sushi and other rices were "medium profile".

This is one of those places that make you feel you are where you are....a classic old tavern/restaurant type atmoshere with old kitchen objects lining the ceiling; wood everywhere; and really good local food and drink. Great service. This was our second time back and we enjoyed it as much as our first visit two years ago. Delicous goulash soup and cucumber salade. Great roast shoulder of pork cooked on the bones....now that’s a butcher cut, with three delicous kartoffelklaas. A very tasty homemade kase kuchen. Nice local draft beer and a nice flasche of Domina, a local area wine. Very reasonably priced. Anytime we visit Rothenburg, we’re dining at Alter Keller.

Tucked away from the main tourists routes, this thoroughly charming restaurant offers not only good wine, but also excellent food and very friendly service. From fellow visitors of the restaurant, I heard that the hotel rooms are also very nice. Can only recommend very highly!

You have the hotel listed but not the restaurant - excellent restaurant
Food was OK. Duck liver starter was tasty but pretty basic. The venison casserole was also quite pleasant but unremarkable. Both the local wines we tried were very ordinary - nothing you would want more than once. Main claim to fame was that they brewed their own beer. Disconcertingly, the light beer is very cloudy, presumably because they don't fine or filter it. Service was quite good but overall, the experience was underwhelming.

We took dinner here upon arrival in Rothenburg and found it to be extremely friendly, comfortable and warm. We were seated in the window where there was a lovely arrangement of illuminated Leyk miniature houses which enchanted the children ( and meant purchases of some of these from the shop the following day!).
There was a large menu to choose from and the children had their own menu of child type food ( rare here) and the staff were lovely with them.
The adults food was wholesome and in large portions, other tables all seemed to have the dumplings - which we wished that we had tried! The atmosphere was friendly and kind, other couples chatting to us and the children between courses.
The children were then invited into the kitchen for ice creams after the meal which was fun for them.
The German wine recommended by the waiter was delicious and the whole meal extremely reasonable in price, 60-70 Euros total, intact we wish that we had booked there to eat again during our stay.
A definite place to return to, and the hotel part of he restaurant looked very comfortable and friendly too!

Our restaurant specializes in Franconian fare with tasty dishes like marinated beef, and moist roast pork soaked in an unforgettable gravy, and a side of red kraut and potato dumplings. Try it with a glas of Franconian wine. Meet the locals in our restaurant, enjoy your beer in our beer garden - or just have a little break with soups, salads or sausages...
Griffen Dunkel is the signature beer. We stopped by, loved the ambience and returned several times. We had delicious, thick and filling potato soup. It was a little salty to our tastes, but really good. We also had the wiener schnitzel, which came with potato salad, marinated vegetables, and a little green salad with a delicate dressing. The meal was well presented and tasty.
