This was one of our best meals in a three week trip. So much Argentinian food lacked variety or interesting twists on old ways of doing things. Steak, potatoes and empanadas are great, but after a while you crave something different. This is what we got at Los Morteros.
We weren't expecting a lot from the Purmamarca dining scene. The town is in an amazing setting, but a little touristy. Just walking into the restaurant lifts the mood. They have great interior design, using a cactus wood roof ceiling with its natural holes to let in light. The walls are brightly painted which gives the room an uplifting feeling.
Service was friendly and prompt. For lunch I had a llama casserole with quinoa on the side and my partner had a quinoa rissotto (an idea we hadn't seen anywhere else). Both dishes were cooked really well and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable.

I have eaten here on two different trips to Purmamarca (this year and last year), and both times the food was outstanding and creative. Add the pleasure of eating outside with the breeze moving across the remarkable landscape, and this is an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended

This one is the Hotel Retsaurant where you can have dinner or lunch even if you do not stay at the Hotel.
Loved this place! The location is superb and the place itself magnificent. The restaurant is in old colonial style, beautifully maintained with great views on their garden (where we even saw wild foxes running around in the evening). The food is simply amazing and the best of the places where we ate in Purmamarca. Starters are large and very yummy. I can't remember the name of my starter, but me and my partner tried different ones and both were great! As a main dish, we tried the home-made pasta with beans which doesn't sound too exciting but was really good, and the pork with risotto - an innovative dish in Argentina and it was superb! Service is outstanding as well. Necessary to make a reservation though since they are often fully booked.

At Don Faustino Restaurant we not only make a lot of effort in serving you the best quality of clasical and traditional food but also in giving you an excellent service together with an impeccable decoration and music specially selected for a really pleasant visit. En Restaurante Don Faustino no solo nos esmeramos en servirle la mejor calidad en comidas regionales y clasica, sino tambien en bindarle una exelente atencion, acompañada de una cuidada decoracion y musica selecciona para que su visita sea realmente placentera.
Standard deep frozen Empanadas, chewy meat in the Tamales, a rather small selection of regional dishes and just the standard Argentinean sides (fries, mashed potatoes, mashed pumpkin).

We went there with my husband thinking it would be another typical local peña with folclore and we were so gladly wrong! it was more like a "fogon" we use to have in our teenager days, on the beach when someone grabbed a guitar and by the fireplace will sing all types of songs. This was much better than this. El Duende starts singuing quietly and during the songs, he begins talking to the audience, always making you feel at ease. I usually don't like to interact with anyone on stage, let alone go to the front but sometime during the night we found ourselves asking for songs and even dancing with a teacher who was there some local dances and it was so fun. it's been ages since we had so much fun. the owners are really nice, the empanadas and pizzas were good, cold beer and they always found a spot for the newcomers. our plan of having some empanadas and go to bed early ended up with a bunch of us dancing and singing at +3am as if it was midnight. highly recommended. it was the highlight of our trip!

We went one midday to have a snack. The service was extremely bad. The girl who came to wait on us was utterly inexperienced. She couldn't even answer to our basic questions. Food we asked for was extremely slow. We ordered empanadas, they were not good at all.
There was some folk music playing, and the singer really tried to create an amiable atmosphere, it wasn't at all great. It was midday and we did not have to pay anything for the "show".
I do not recommend this place.

They do breakfast too
This is an awesome place to eat if you are looking for a cosy enviroment, affordable prices, and a pizza that is second to none. Run by the owners -they cook and serve the tables. The diner is tiny (there are 5 tables at the most) and they also do pizza Delivery.
The only flaw: they don't serve any alcoholic drinks. (I can live without them but pizzas call for beer sometimes).
I discovered this place on my last night there, so I didn't get the chance to try the tea-time menu. I will do it on my next stop in Purmamarca

Very beautiful restaurant, nicely furbished and nice ambiance. The food is very well presented and garnished; you can tell that there is a chef in the kitchen. However, behind presenfation, the taste was nothjng special at all and the bife -steak, although perfectly cocked medium rear, was a little harded than you would expect in Argentjna. It was, overall, a nice evening but not something I will remember for long!

We ate here because the staff said there would be live folkloric music, and because it was one that was open earlier among the few restaurants in Purmamarca. Service was almost non-existant, but for being surly, the food was awful (tough beef with a sugary sauce and beef with cheese slabs, tomato and oregano) and there never was live music, only blaring recordings of a boy band, with each song ending in many minutes of screaming girls from the apparently live audience. I refuse to go on, because it brings back such awful memories!

We went there twice for dinner. Apart from the starter, a tasty egg plant dish, the food is average, but the pena music is excellent. Four stars for the entertainment. Different groups are playing music from the Jujuy province. Service was friendly and attentive.
Would definitely come back again because of the lively music.
