We enjoyed our time here. The sunny day with a group of friends. It's spacious but on warm days can be very popular. The service was quick and efficient and we certainly liked the food. One little notice: our calamari fritti were very salted, everything else was as we wanted it go be.

There are no longer monks living in this refuge, but there is a fine hotel with fabulous views, a country inn with sinfully good food, and outstanding wines that one will not soon forget.
Arrived on a dark and stormy night and were made very welcome by the charming staff. Imaginative menu with local ingredients; all food beautifully prepared, great wines from own vineyard, very attentive staff.Family at adjacent table had out of control toddler who was still running around and screaming in restaurant at 11pm, which did detract from the ambience. Hghly recommended

The Taubenkobel restaurant is one of the best in the country. And for those who are hesitant to enter such spheres, the light version in the form of a pretty bistro is just the ticket. Unique in the world: a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland. When crossing the threshold of taubenkobel it is clear that its owners have created an unique atmosphere, a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland, half an hour away from Vienna. This charming 19th century vintner's house is dedicated not only to well-being but also to the appreciation of art and the surrounding nature. Add to this the remarkable cuisine of the Grand Chef Walter Eselbock and his son-in-law Alain Weissgerber who masterfully craft local products into sophisticated creations. Eveline Eselbock will enchant you with her selection of wines. Barbara Eselbock, daughter of Eveline and Walter, will welcome you with her charming attitude. 11 Individual rooms and suites which are lovingly equipped with selected furniture and accessories from all over the world will make you feel like staying at a good old friends house. An outdoor natural pool, the enchanted garden, a sauna and an additional more casual restaurant the "Greisslerei" will round off your stay.
Excellent restaurant. Staff were very attentive, explained every dish when they arrived. The food was excellent and presentation very unique. It was quite an experience. Peter Scheiber of Weinguide took us there; he knows all the good places. It is a bit out of the way but definitely worth the visit.

Restaurant or rather wine-garden with typical austrian kitchen. You can eat your meal under the trees. In menu you will find here variety of cutlets, fresh salads, special menu for children. Dishes are very tasty. Portions are really big. Prices very reasonable (approx. 11 euro per main course). This is a good place for lunch or dinner. Restaurant is opened every day from 10:00, except Tuesday.

The Braunstein's menu features standard Gasthaus fare plus gourmet food. They are also producers of prize winning wines. We visited twice and tried both types of food. The Gasthaus fare was delicious and the portions huge. The Slow Food was exceptionally good. Together, we tried four dishes and all were of top quality. The Wirt's sister is a winemaker and she has won many prizes for her outstanding wines. The Wirt, Paul Braunstein, spent considerable time talking with us and explained the methods used in the vineyard and in the wine cellar. It is no wonder that the wine is so good. The little town of Purbach has 3 exceptionally good restaurants. This was the best value. Be sure to walk the side street to see the wine cellars dug into the ground in front of each house.

This gourmet restaurant was packed and for good reason. The food was outstanding and the service generally good. The owner and his wife were often seen wandering through the restaurant or observing from one of several windows. At one point where several orders came out of the kitchen at one time, they grabbed plates and delivered them. When owners take this kind of interest, the restaurant is almost always good. Gut Purbach exemplifies this. The wines were excellent, but those at the nearby Braunstein were the best we tried in Burgenland.

You don't expect in the vineyard environment a top quality restaurant. Self made warm bread, local ingredients composed to special dishes, both fish and meat. Proper wine from the region for a reasonable price. Nice tables outside. Very friendly.

You feel as part of the family. Very nice garden, romantic medieval building. Excellent fresh fishes from the nearly Neusiedler-sea, superb fruity wine from the own vineyard. We love as appetizer the aspic, as main the breaded eels, and if you have enough capacity: a really fantastic "somlauer nockerl" - the best traditional dessert from the K.u.K. era. Only on weekends and only during the warm month. The last event in the year; the tasting the young-wine with a goose-dinner is fantastic.

Amazing wines, rich, elegant and structured (especially the red) and beautifully served in a great location. It was one of my best escape-to-the-countryside trips from Vienna. I was there in a rainy day. They have a nice garden outside and great place indoor with a lot of atmosphere and elegance (where I enjoyed the great wines served in proper glasses). It is also suitable for family as they have few farm amimals outside (goats and hens). I will definitely go back.

We had no expectations for this location as it was simply a stopping point midway between destinations. What a pleasant surprise to find the area and this eatery. It appears that this area is part of a wine tour as well as a destination for cyclists. It is essentially a ramblas of wine cellars that also serve food. Not all of them were open and I am not entirely sure how it works, but upon entering this town we passed kilometers of vineyards, so I am assuming this is where the local producers share their wine. Anyway, this particular "wine hut" serves food that is outstanding. They do have an English menu, but we were the only English speakers in the area. At least one of the waiters spoke English, but we did have confusion upon ordering. However, what they did bring us to eat was great. We had a bean strudel, typical Austrian cold sausage plate, and some type of roasted pork with a stuffing side. I wish we had more time as I would have ordered more. The prices were ridiculously reasonable and the atmosphere outstanding for a Spring day. I will research returning to this area and returning to this eatery to try more from the menu. I am sure the wine list was superb, but we were not able to partake this particular day.
