Puerto Octay is a town and commune located on the north shore of Llanquihue Lake in Los Lagos Region in the south of Chile. It was settled by German colonists in 1852. Puerto Octay was an important port with regular traffic to Puerto Varas before the coming of railway in 1912.

We thought it was beautiful, loved the animals they have outdoors (llamas, alpacas, etc.), but the Tenedor Libre (all you can eat) seemed too expensive. We went for the sandwiches and were more than satisfied: fresh, natural ingredients, homemade delicious bread, fast and good service. Restaurant was recommended by a local friend at Puerto Octay, so we knew it had to be good.

Friendly lady served us. The pebre was very good! The other dishes were good too, and the cazuela sublime! Just for quick and good food.

We were coming down the back side of the lake circuit when we chanced on El Fogon de Anita. We stopped in for Sunday dinner, joining locals who greeted us cheerily. The special was probably veal so we ordered that with the spiced mashed potatoes... good idea but it was afterward, when we saw the pastries, that our mouths watered. Extraordinarily light and clearly low-sugar, even for pastries. You can't get these in Seattle/Everett. If you're lunching while going around Lago Llanquihue, stop here.

Excelente opción para viajeros que deciden ir un poco más allá de Ensenada hacia Puerto Octay. Las instalaciones de este restaurante ubicado dentro del lodge las cascadas son de primer nivel. La carta es apetitosa y el resultado increíble, con un muy buen servicio y una vista al lago que impacta y relaja.
Muy buen lugar para almuerzo!

A tiny little café by the edge of the lake that we found quite by accident
The owner makes everything and we had the kuchen made to grandma’s original recipe
The owner was delightful and tried to speak to us in English. She also has lots of crafts for sale

De paseo en Las Cascadas y buscando un lugar donde almorzar, llegamos a Rústico. Comida casera y platos con baranda. Tienen una cerveza artesanal muy buena. Atención cordial, cumple como picada. Se puede pagar en efectivo o transferencia.

We offer fresh ground coffee, a wide variety of R&B teas, infusions, berry juices, sandwiches, marmalades and world renowned cheeses. You can enjoy a traditional Tea time or Wine & Cheese in a rustic ambient with a great view of surrounding volcanoes and Llaquihue Lake.

This certainly is a nice surprise for Puerto Octay! One of the best coffees and pastry I have tried on my visit to this region. Excellent service, attended by owner, pastry made by owner. A very nice experience. Want to come back and try the wines.A must visit
