Not often you find a central american restaurant that can prepare a great sauce. That was the case at La Torre last week when we had the Corvina al ajillo (garlic sauce) for lunch. In addition the octopus was wonderful in a dark sauce. If you are in the Portobello area make time for this family owned, clean and comfortable restaurant.

Octopus Garden is a wonderful seafood based restaurant located on the Caribbean Ocean. We offer waterfront dinning as well as up stairs at the outside style bar as well as around the balcony overlooking the Ocean. Our house specialty is a Peruvian Octopus simmered in a coconut milk until it becomes tender and juicy. Although we specialize in seafood we also have have hamburgers and french fries to spaghetti :P yum yum Come visit us any time hours from 8:00am - 8:00pm come join us any time for blueberry waffles and Angel's special homemade Strawberry Shortcake!
The hotel and restaurant has English and Spanish speaking staff. The food is uniformly good. The rooms are clean and view is magnificent. Thanks so much for this wonderful review. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you enjoyed your time at the Octopus Garden Hotel, Restaurant and Bar. Come see us again soon!

When I imagined how am I going to spend the day in Portobelo it would like to find a little place like this!
On the beach, hippie and shabby ,friendly faces...
Well... is the perfect combination, clean but adequate decorated with dusty antiques ,accessible and no aggression, feeling like in other spots in these neighborhoods;
La Cazuela De Mariscos exceeded all expectations and we declare this the best seafood soup (stew) we ever had!
The Creole cuisine, signature is authentic and fit perfectly into the landscape!
There is a pirate who is definitely hidden his treasure here:)
Thank you!

we were a group of 6 adults, and while everyone was very happy with their meal and the service, it would have been nice to have more variety of fish. The coconut rice was very good, as was the lemonaide. very beautiful view, but felt a bit tooo rustic. bathrooms needed some cleaning as well. again, we all had a great meal, but wished the atmosphere was better.

On the road to Isla Grande and few minutes from Portobelo you can get great pizza, steaks and superb freshly baked for your order European style bread loaf. Prices are reasonable, service excellent. Owners are from France / Italy. Not to miss apple pie and order garlic bread with your food.
The restaurant only open Thursday – Sunday.

It's the epitome of the Caribbean vibe - complete with Marley in the background. Loved everything about the place - the food, the drinks, the decor, and most importantly the service. We had personal attention from Jack and loved hearing his stories. The mahi mahi...MoreThanks Kristi! Who knows maybe we’ll see you again sometime!

I have mixed feelings about sharing this treasure. Mixed because it was so awesome that I'd hate to see it overrun with tourists on my return visit. Likely a dining highlight of a week in Panama. Located on the bay that Columbus first set his anchor, this absolute gem, both in style as well as excellent local cuisine. Every dish was a joy, Fried Calamari aioli, octopus, ceviche, conch, and grilled chicken skewer that was so yummy. If you are in the Portabello area, you can do no better.

Gran panadería artesanal y restaurante donde la comida es caribeña e italiana con una vista a la bahía de Portobelo ..
Only had drinks but were delicious. Freshly squeezed orange juice (large glass) and cappuccino for less than 5 dollars. Owner was making bread/pizza dough which was amazing. Very friendly popular tiny restaurant. Looks like eating area upstairs also. The place to go in portobello.

Don't be put off by your first impression ! Huge restaurant right on the sea, closed on Tuesday. Good food. The two dorms, total 7 beds, look quite run down but they are clean as well as the bedsheets. No mosquito nets nor a/c. The shower is just a pipe with cold water. The French owner is a nice chap and sleeps on site, therefore it's a safe place even if the doors of the dorms cannot be locked from inside : leave them wide open so that a nice breeze from the sea can enter. There are no lockers. "You get what you pay for !". All the ruins of Portobelo can be visited in one hour.

direct at the Waterfront
CASA VELA is located directly on the bay in Portobelo and has a wonderful dinghy dock and is very close to several supermarkets and countless must see historical sites. The owners, Birgit and Ray, are very friendly and helpful. Chef Real and his beautiful doggie, Amy, are also there. Chef Real prepares FABULOUS food. You MUST try one of his AMAZING fresh pizzas (cooked in a REAL pizza oven) and order some iced cold Balboa beers to go with it.
There is also a Sail Loft here where Ray can repair existing or create new canvas or sail projects for your boat.
If you need to catch up on internet, you can purchase some iced cold drinks and sit and enjoy the great wifi. They have a VERY clean restroom and shower, too.
This is also a wonderful place to visit with very friendly dogs and cats. Birgit and Ray have HUGE hearts and have rescued and adopted some very loving dogs and cats. You can pet all of them to your hearts content. : )
1. Purchase unlimited water at the cost of $1.00 per week
2. $1.50 Local Beers and $3.00 German Beers and more, i.e., rum, vodka, sodas, coffee and more.
