Tea House with amazing views over the ocean.
We were on our way to the west coast, leisurely driving on the highway. Something "compelled" me to follow a sign to a lighthouse in the village of Ponta Do Pargo and I'm so glad we did. This tiny but beautiful restaurant sits smack on the westernmost point (or a km away from the actual lighthouse) overlooking the cliffs of western Madeira. Not to come here is missing out. When we got here, we were almost alone, but later more people found their way. The owners are super friendly and grateful for some business. We first only stopped for some "support the local business coffee" before we went for a walk down to the lighthouse and back. We decided to stay for lunch to enjoy the Sunshine and the fresh air, not to mention those views...
The food is simple but delicious. We weren't super hungry so opted mostly for sandwiches and salads. Sadly the place is for sale and has been for a while. So who knows what the future holds...

Very basic place.
They could do with some investment in the decor.
The outdoor Seating is in the car park with quite a few stray cats wandering around and waiting to be fed.
On the plus side, service was friendly and the seafood very fresh with generous portion sizes.
I asked for a coffee after the meal and needed extra hot water as it was too dark for my liking. They charged us €1.50 for a small cup of hot water!

Do not be misled by its appearance which is quite humble. Just go inside and have some simple, local and delicious food.
We went for lunch before exploring Madeira's western-most end. The restaurant is not very big and it was full at the time we got there. The owner told us to come back in 10 minutes, so we checked the nearby souvenir shop - prices were the lowest we encountered in Madeira for that kind of stuff, by the way.
We were seated when we got back and the owner gave us some advices about the dishes of the day. We ordered what he recommended, namely "Porco preto (black pig) cheeks" and "Scabbard fish fillet" which were amazingly delicious and not expensive. Our lunch for 3, mains, a tomato soup, bread, drinks (including a 370 cc bottle of red wine) and desserts, totalled 44 €.
Nothing special with the ambience, quite unassuming, although there was a CR7 T-shirt and a small plaque with sailor's knots hanging on the wall. But, trust me, once you try your meal, the ambience will be of no concern :).
Small, cute family-run restaurant with very friendly owners. Highly recommended! And do not miss the pig's cheeks!
