Adventure Dining was the highlight of our 2 weeks in beautiful Jaco Costa Rica. The Ambiance, Gardens, great food, Breathing Taking Views and a sunset that left you breathless all made for the perfect evening. Our meal was delicious and plentiful. The staff were lovely and friendly and it is all run by our incredible hosts David and Cindy . They are really special people and we all enjoyed our evening with them. They are friendly , warm, engaging , funny and gracious. Not to sound corny but it was magical, crazy , fun, perfect evening. Its worth every penny . Hats off to our driver Johnny , you had a wild group of people in your bus and you handled it all with laughter and smiles and navigated those roads beautifully. Adventure Dining is a MUST, LOVED IT. LOVED IT. LOVED IT.

Antano's is a nice local restaurant in Atenas. Good food, beer and wine at reasonable prices. The Horchata (rice milk) drink was excellent.

Located on the freeway that connects the airport to the pacific coast of Costa RIca. All the employees are english spoken. You will have the opportunity to taste the costa rican food made by our employees with more than 30 years of experience. All travelers receive a map and magazine with all the information you need to know about costa rica.
We stopped for lunch here on our way back to San Jose. This roadside restaurant offers tipical Costa Rican food. The service was excellent and the manager even introduced himself to us and offered us a complimentary Costa Rican tortilla dish that we had not seen in any other restaurants. The decor focuses on promoting Costa Rica and I would recommend this restaurant.

Kay's Gringo Postres roughly translated means Kay's NorthAmerican Sweets. Kay and her husband, Tom, from South Dakota, started out as a tiny pastry and coffee shop and grew into the only place in Atenas and for miles around that serves real American soul food - heavenly cheeseburgers and crispy fries, several types of grilled cheese sandwiches, BLT's, amazing breakfasts as well as an all you can eat Sunday Brunch buffet. The cakes, cookies and pie are homemade and defy description. It's a gathering place for locals as well as expatriates, They also maintain a lending library with English, German, French and Spanish books.
Four of us ate there around 10 in the morning. One person had the Greek salad and the others had breakfast. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, toast- all cooked and presented well. The Greek salad was especially delicious. Our server, Mercedes, was efficient and friendly. They also have a nice variety of freshly made desserts.

My companion and I had breakfast here. For me the Desayuno Aleman and mi amiga the French Toast. Both done to request, filling and delicious! We sat on the side balcony well screened from the noise of the street. The waitress was attentive and solicitious. The menu offers a wide range of dinning choices for breakfast, lunch, or a complete dinner. The venue also offers a range of canned goods emphsizing German fare. My companion found her favorite, saurkraut, no mean feat in a Latin country. Also, in keeping with the German theme, is a display case of meats, German sausage included, and various breads, cakes, torts, empanadas, media lunas, and jams and marmalade. Pickles even! Superb!

We ate here for lunch. The language barrier on my part was a problem. I ordered quesadilla and was served a cosada. It was good, but not what I ordered. I will try again. It is on a busy road. The decor is charming and authentic. Reasonable prices.

One the best restaurants in Atenas. Only La Trocha compares.
surroundings are so so, you are surrounded, circled by the cars parked around the restaurant, no true decoration
the service is agreeable and 'tranquilo'
the menu has ups and downs: spaghetti tasteless and full of water, fabulous smoked porc, chicken meat over cooked and stone hard, fantastic and enormous salad with shrimps (a wee bit of salad sauce or olive oil would have been great on the veggies), decent fried cheese
water, beer, sodas and wine, a very decent choice

It is a small restaurant located on the side of the main road to Jacó. We serve always fresh seafood, we have natural drinks based on fruit pulp, sodas, wine and beer. If you have problems to reach the restaurant, do not hesitate to call us. See you there!
We'd read good reviews of this place and passed it several times before finally stopping. The arroz con camarones was very good - but twice the price you would pay for a comparable plate at a soda (Costa Rican diner), of which there are plenty within a couple kilometers of this place. The vegetables that accompanied it were barely cooked. Our other order was ceviche - which was large and tasty, but nothing special. Only a few little pieces of banana accompanied it. Even with fans the place was hot, and the atmosphere uninspiring. Save your money and get better food at a soda.

Coming from San Jose to Jaco and the Pacific we stopped at Antigua Hacienda for lunch. Sitting in the shade we had mango juice from fruit that had been grown on that very property! I had a chicken rice dish that was so good. Carmen, who served us, brought us some of the special hot sauce that she makes herself. When I added some to my dish, it was even better. One of us had the black beans, rice and white cheese, which I tasted. It was very good as well. After we had finished eating and were preparing to leave, she brought us a green fruit that we had never seen before. It was carambola, which one of our Costa Rican friends says is often sour. But this fruit was sweet and good!
This is a clean, friendly establishment. The food was great. You will enjoy the mural which depicts the family history of farming and developing the land where the restaurant still stands. I hope to stop by there again on the way home.
Thumbs up!
