Authentic Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine in the heart of Dartmoor. We have a passion for creating mouth watering, authentic Indian dishes, which are all freshly prepared by our talented chefs using the finest, fresh ingredients and authentic blend of spices. Many of our dishes are unique to Rajpoot and inspired by the food that is eaten in an Indian home. You can choose from an array of Indian starters, traditional Indian dishes, our chefs house specials, curries and English dishes. The Rajpoot is fully licensed or feel free to bring your favourite drinks. We offer a Sunday Buffet, eat as much as you like, we have many meals currently not from our menu that are truly exquisite, mouth watering Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani meals along with English dishes at a set price. Also on a Thursday we offer four course meal deal £12.50(except Fish and Duck)
The Raj Poot is a restaurant of two halves, having a downstairs cellar type section, which is cosy and secluded, and an upstairs newer section which fronts onto the high street. Zia and his team run a well organised setup, and we have always found them very attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and they will prepare your meal to your liking.
They have a large varied menu to choose from or you can let them suggest some dishes for you.
On Thursday nights they have a set 3 course menu for £12.95 including starter, main, sweet/coffee and glass of wine. On Sunday's they have an eat as much as you like buffet for £12.95. The buffet has a wide selection and the staff are on hand to explain each dish if you need it.
There is some parking at the rear but the entrance is VERY tight if you have a larger car.
This is a restaurant where you feel comfortable and valued as a customer, and well worth visiting.

Will keep this short as I've reviewed it before. Rang and booked and arrived early on during the lunchtime session. It was quiet but does fill up around 1pm. Enjoyed two more lovely, good value, meals and a couple of, very reasonably priced, drinks. Meals arrived in good time and service was friendly and polite. I would think you could be disappointed if you just turn up and hope there's a table in the main part of the pub ....it's a busy spot, but that's generally a good sign. Having said that there is another room across the way and we've eaten in there and it's OK.
All the time it remains much as it is now we'll keep returning. If it were ever to get new owners and if it happened to change in character, then we'd think again.

Under new management. A true Devon family pub serving traditional home cooked food. A good selection of local ales and ciders and an extensive wine list. Children welcome with high chairs available and a large beer garden. Sunday carvery served. Walking distance from the Travel Lodge. We also have a Holiday Cottage that sleeps up to Six
Beautiful pub in an amazing setting, sunny outside with fabulous views of the countryside. We were camping nearby and visited just before England played Scotland, the six nations. We had had several drinks and were looking to order food. We asked if TV could be turned to the rugby and were refused!
Disappointed we all left....shame had been to pub every time we stay at campsite and can vouch for both food and drinks really good, however this episode would make me think again if ever TV event showing.

Stopped off at this great little pub for a Sunday lunch on our way up country...bags of atmosphere and a genuine warm welcome from the staff.
Home cooking with portions on the generous side..went for the vegetable lasagne and that still came with all the Sunday trimmings..i.e. roast potatoes..Yorkshire pud..carrots..peas..broccoli and leeks..took me awhile but finally left an empty plate..just too good to leave anything.
No room or desire for a dessert although there are numerous options..excellent value for money..2 meals plus a couple of pints for £21.00..marvellous.

Whilst staying in Okehampton decided to eat at the Fountain inn.
The bar was warm and welcoming with log fire blazing and candles on the tables. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and good value and the beer and wine choice was extensive.
Would definitely eat here again.

The North Devon CAMRA Pub Of The Year 2014, 2015 & 2017. Our selection of real ale is all served direct from the barrel. We also have a large range of gins including many local ones.
Visiting the red lion was a real gem find. We were so pleasantly surprised by the great quality of the food. Lovely real country pub. Great landlords really friendly. Great home cooking. Lovely touches like when we ordered a Irish coffee instead of a bog standard mint we were served with a little home baked shortbread yum

Warm, friendly staff, excellent beers, great choice of Gins, although we didn't eat there the food we saw looked well prepared and of good quality at reasonable prices. It is a pub with a pub food menu not a restaurant.
As a pub it ticks all the boxes and please make the effort to chat to the staff and the regulars, they are a friendly lot who will make you feel most welcome.
Cannot wait to go back soon.
