Heaven isn’t too far away from Obergurgl. Maybe because, at 6000 feet elevation, it’s the highest church parish in Austria. Or maybe it’s just the skiing. Take a guided tour with an expert mountaineer, explore the wintery dreamscape off-piste or get exclusive “early bird” slope access that ends with oysters and champagne. Or ditch the skis and go for a winter hike or thrilling toboggan ride. Ski huts and rest stops range from rustic to futuristic, all with panoramic views.

Saw lots of positive reviews so decided to try this place. I went there at 10am and asked if I could book a table. I was told ‘No, but turn up and try us at lunchtime’, I came back at lunchtime with my family and got a table easily, but noticed that many had ‘Reserved’ cards on them. When I asked about why I had not been allowed to book one earlier, in short I was told by the waiter that we didn’t have to eat at the restaurant and could go elsewhere! We chose to stay rather than leave as we were tight for time.
We asked the waiter for a glass of milk for my daughter. He said they had no milk! (Imagine that - a restaurant with no milk!). We asked for a small dish of olives. He said they had no olives (even though items in the menu contain them). We ordered Pizzas which were ok, but two of them were burnt. We left very disappointed at his attitude and inflexibility. We would not go back and do not recommend.

We visited this restaurant on its "reopening" evening after having recently been refurbished to become a proper steakhouse. We had a fabulous meal, the aged ribeye was genuinely fantastic and the staff were most helpful. If you fancy a change from traditional Austrian cuisine, this place is perfect!

Called in the Nederhutte 2 nights on our way back from day skiing and not disappointed. Atmosphere truly fantastic, life music great, happens 4 nights a week, dancing on tables by all ages. The staff serving are amazing so many people but come round and take orders without any fuss. Best apres ski I’ve been too

Very nice and peacefull place. Austrian food specialiced on vegetarian winter-soups for example carrott-ginger soup but also serving the clasics like Wiener Schnitzel and Käsespätzle. Hidden from the crowded slopes at the rotmoos-valley.
You cannot beat the views from Schonwieshutte! It's also a mad experience getting pulled there by snowmobile. Great fun, if slightly terrifying if there are a lot of you holding on to the rope. An unforgettable experience. The food was good, reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly. A little bit of uphill skiing on the way back, but not much. A good opportunity to burn off some of the calories you've just taken on.

Great food - huge dishes of delicious local/german style kitchen. The scenery is amazing, and the interior is also beautiful. Friendly staff and friendly prices!

The Top Mountain Star in the Oetztal Valley is a high point in every sense of the word.
An unrivalled location and brilliant views. You’ve got to be ski mobile to get there in winter. It’s got limited food menu but you go there for a drink and to sit and marvel at the 360 degree Panorama. It’s shut /inaccessible in bad weather.

Lovely fondue night here, with a great atmosphere. We also got involved in the "trying to hit the nail in the wood game" which is a good laugh!

FINE DINING AT THE HOTEL Edelweiss & GURGL Winter garden, fondue & à la carte Food is an important part of any holiday. At the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl guests can look forward to a culinary experience to remember. Our à la carte restaurant at 1,930 metres above sea level serves haute cuisine in the truest sense of the word, with highlights including local delicacies such as game as well as delicious desserts you will find hard to resist. Why not enjoy a real alpine experience with a fondue in the specially designed fondue area of our restaurant? An elegant combination of wood and stone, an overhead extractor fan above the tables and a glass roof offering fabulous views of the night sky are the perfect ingredients for a special evening. Those looking for a little peace and quiet can head to the winter garden to enjoy a glass of fine wine or a cup of coffee as they look out at the hustle and bustle of skiers and snowboarders at the bottom station of the Roßkar cable car next to the hotel.
We booked a fondue evening for 20 people at a cost of €42 per head (meat fondue). We started with pre-dinner drinks in the lovely bar and were served promptly by a very friendly member of staff.
Unfortunately things went down hill from here. Once we were in the restaurant we were told that vegetarians had to sit together on a separate table on the other side of the room. Obviously we explained we were unhappy about this, but the staff said they could not serve us if we didn't do as they said.
We then waited for some time for food to arrive and wine orders were taking up to 20 minutes to get to the table. The food came at different times and not everyone got the same selection. We had almost finished when they brought out a plate of fruit and cold meats; we were told this was for the cheese fondue - we'd been dipping potatoes into the cheese because there was nothing else! For a table of 6 people we were given a very small dish of chicken, beef, pork and sausages. I do not think that the combined weight of all the meat totalled more than 200g - this is just not enough for 6 skiers.
In conclusion the service was slow, bordering on rude, and the meal was extremely poor value for money.
I did complain to the staff and I asked our resort manager to complain; both complaints fell on deaf ears and we were left feeling very angry.

After a long, icy, red run down the mountain we were looking forward to a hot drink. The drinks were acceptable but nothing special, when they actually arrived. However the service was awful, rude and bordering on aggressive. It really ruined what had been a lovely morning.
Such a shame as staff everywhere else in the resort are friendly and very welcoming.
Next time we'll jump straight back on the gondola and head to a nicer place.
