If you find yourself in the northeastern part of Portugal , there isn't a better restaurant
in this region. We had lunch in this place when it first opened and waited for over an hour
for a table , the line was somewhat lengthy. When we were served the food was
regional and superb. It was worth the wait. We have returned since and the place hasn't
changed.

A very good restaurant in the old town serving traditional Portuguese food. A reasonable large menu, 50% of which was cod done in a variety of different ways. Cod being a traditional Portuguese dish.
So of course I had to have cod. Which was huge, and tasty. well worth ordering.
Would eat here again and try cod done in a different way!

Este restaurante está en la parte Antigua de Miranda y detrás de la calle principal de tiendas. Muy bueno el bacalao a la Balbina.
As another reviewer has stated, the posta mirandesa, which is a huge veal tenderloin cooked with some very tasty but not overpowering spices, is terrific.
The restaurant was jam packed on a Saturday afternoon. We were definitely the only English speakers, but the huge majority were Spanish tourists. The food was very inexpensive, fresh, and tasty. Not a fancy place, but definitely good food at a good price.

Three dining options, inside, balcony overlooking the river or the sunny street out the front. Great choice of coffees, beers and wines and a wide menu selection including pizzas, baguettes and snacks. very friendly staff who appreciated our attempts at ordering in Portuguese and were proficient in English.

this is one of the two places in town that have the certified "posta mirandesa" but the person that was serving us seemed like he didnt know what he was doing. the veggies had no flavour and were microwave heated and the meat was well seasoned but was a bit burned on the outside. so if you have a weak team there is no advantage on having the best ingredients.
av price per portion 13eur, meal 17eur

The food and service in this restaurant are excellent! Try the "Costelas de Borrego" and you will like it for sure! In August, the restaurant can be very crowded and it's better to book it.

Massive restaurant, catering for the Spanish shoppers. We did not like our meals; bacalao still very salty, grilled meat nothing special. Mixed salad was best part of our meal. Service bad; the lady that served us had her 10 yr old daughter running around and helping with serving. It looked like there was no supervision or nobody in charge.

We had lunch here end of July, but were rather late (after 1 p.m.), to Portuguese norms. The staff did not like this too much, but as they said we still could eat here, we stayed. Big error ! It took more than an hour to prepare some basic dishes, that - by the way - did not taste too well. When time had come to pay the bill, the owner (or the man that at least behaved as such) was asking higher prices than those indicated on the menu. We never learned the reason why, as he started to shout immediately when I asked a question about it. In the end, we paid not more than the prices on the menu, but we were followed out by a whole parade of rough scoldings. If you ever think about eating here, just step in and watch the man with the big moustache ... and then think again if you really want to stay there. I wouldn't !

We had Menu of the day for 12 euros each and struggled to finish! I had salad to start, then bacalao mixed in with rice and I think eggs- little bit like kedgeree- very good; then orange tart, which wasn't a tart more of an orange egg custard. Husband chose meat option which he couldn't finish! You could choose wine water or fruit juice all in with the price. Be prepared to wait if busy. They don't take credit cards.

"Posta Mirandesa" it's the choice here. I've had it several years ago, never forget and promised myself to be back. Check. Posta is a homeric steak from " Raça Mirandesa" exclusively fed from green biologic pastures of the region. Even my veggie wife approved my choice by having a fantastic piece of barbecued cod. Staff is scarce and do not expect to be called sweetie, or be smiled at. They are just competent. Ask for coffee on the Varanda and witness a fantastic sight to the Rio Douro Dam. A meal here it's inexpensive and of a very high quality. Finally take a walk to the old town to burn some of calories....
