Kythira (/kɪˈθiːrə/, /ˈkɪθɪrə/; Greek: Κύθηρα [ˈciθiɾa], also transliterated as Cythera, Kythera and Kithira) is an island in Greece lying opposite the south-eastern tip of the Peloponnese peninsula. It is traditionally listed as one of the seven main Ionian Islands, although it is distant from the main group. Administratively, it belongs to the Islands regional unit, which is part of the Attica region (although at large distance from Attica itself).

We spent 12 nights in Kythira and tried restaurants all over the island. We ate here 4 times and had fish each time. This is the best restaurant for fish on the island. The refrigerator is well stocked with a large variety, different every day. Ask to see the fish. Choose what you like, ask how they prepare it and how much it will cost. The setting is isolated, but not especially pretty, in front of a large, dusty gravel parking lot. The service was attentive, except on a Sunday when they were over-extended. I would give this place 5 stars if it were not for the house wine. Maybe this is something special that Greeks like, but I thought it was terrible, both the white and the rose. They told me that it was not retsina, but it tasted resinous to me. They do have some bottles of wine and beer on tap. It’s a shame because excellent wine is produced right there on the island.

A nice restaurant in Kythera with a beautiful garden in three levels.
We tasted average home-made dishes, cooking based on fresh ingredients. Vegetables are mostly from the owner’s garden. Dishes that stand out are the Kaltsunia with spinach, and Ksinochorto with aubergines.
The service was very friendly and is highly recommended.

The Café-Restaurant “Platanos” (plane tree ) is a Greek traditional restaurant situated in the central square of the village Mylopotamos in Kythera in a very nice location.
The restaurant is open in the summer having the tables under the shadow of two giant platanos trees, next to a small river basin(that is dry because of the large droughts this year), but the coffee-shop is open all the year round .
The restaurant has a wide variety of available dishes, the prices are reasonable and the service very good but not always very quick.
Everything which we have eaten (e.g. rabbit in tomato sauce with fried potatos, lamb in baking paper with baked potatos, village salad with local olives) was very tasty and served in large portions.
Sometimes there is a small problem in summer if some bees and hives are flying around (in that case you have to ask for a small tin of smoked coffee, so that they go away).
We were satisfied from the Café-Restaurant “Platanos” and we would like to suggest it.
We will visit it again if an opportunity arises.

After an interesting hike to the old capital of Kythira; Paleochora, we dined at this restaurant in Potamos. In the middle of March we had to dine inside, but during the summer, it must be really great to sit outside on the lovely square. The service was good and I had a very good lamb dish.

Great traditional Greek food, grilled calamari, greek salad, mousaka were all tasty and good value. Many other creations that I have never heard of but were all good. We ate and drank here several times during our stay with occasional swim in the beautiful clear ocean. Service was great.

The place looks so horrible and dirty that I simply don't know how anyone can sit there. Me included. Me and my boyfriend hesitated, but there was nothing else in Diakofti that looked alive, and at the end we decided to sit, hoping not to catch some disease.
At the end, the food was decent, but still I'm not sure about the cleanliness. Inside the restaurant - what a mess! Toilet - what a mess!
Again, the food was ok and the owner was very chatty and funny. Food seemed clean. Everything ok.

We had some drinks and a toasted Sandwich. Everything was good to excellent, apart from one beverage that they forgot to bring. Recommended due to its refreshing atmosphere!

Very nice atmosphere, close to a lake with ducks swimming while you enjoy your coffee. Don't miss the sweet club sand witch with Nutella, Oreo & white chocolate. Wifi password: kamari89 One drawback is that the don't issue receipts. Classic for Greek businessmen.

We went twice there at our stay in Kapsali. We tried the crepes both times and they were more than fulfilling! Nicely made, many options to choose from and huuuuuge portions. Just by the beach. They serve crepes, coffee, smoothies. ice cream and toasts and sandwiches. The coffee there is quite good there. Would recommend it.
