Konitsa (Greek: Κόνιτσα) is a town of Ioannina in Epirus, Greece, near the Albanian border. It is located north of the capital Ioannina, and northeast of a group of villages known as the Zagorochoria. The town was built amphitheatrically-shaped on a mountain slope of the Pindos mountain range from where it overlooks the valley where the river Aoos meets the river Voidomatis.

Many have tried, but no-one has succeeded in matching the legendary Dias! A real classic in the village, with the best food - cooked, grilled, pies, soups, everything! - the best ambience - key moment: summer under the massive kiwi tree! - and the best service ever! Do not miss if you visit Mikro P.

We own the traditional restaurant "astra". You can find it in a beautiful place with a great view at the Mountains. We are picking up our ingredients at the terraces around which are cultivated with organic vegetables. Fresh zucchinis, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, but also feta cheese or yellow hard cheese by the animals their parents are elevating. Our cooking is based on traditional local recipes always prepared with fresh and tasty ingredients!!!!!
The brothers running this lovely place are serious about their produce, some of which they also sell to take away. The food is excellent, with emphasis on greenery, mushrooms and beautifully grilled meats and fish (the trout is a must). The ambience is lovely, and the service immaculate. One of the major pluses here is also the wine list. It is surprising that many other places in the area only serve wine out of the barrel (just one kind, cheap-&-cheerful house wine) but Astra offers a small selection of excellent bottled wines from around Greece, which makes a huge difference to the quality of the meal. Highly recommended.

Nikos and Ioulia have created what is possibly the most atmospheric corner in Megalo Papingo, with the wonderful flea market arcade and the adjacent restaurant-cafe. The decor is charming, the food is excellent, with fresh produce from small local producers prepared with skill and care. The service is perfect, and the prices spot on. My only recommendation would be slightly lower lighting, with perhaps the odd candle or table lamp, because the ambience is so much more than just a standard taverna, and it would really glow in softer light. Highly recommended, anyway.

I recently stayed at the accommodation linked with this restaurant. It was so excellent we didn’t bother going anywhere else during our two night stay. I am vegetarian and there were plenty of options. And - which deserves a special mention - it is smoke-free. This makes a huge difference. I hope I get to come back one day.

This place is not easy to spot. The name 'Toris' in Greek is on a glass door but this is concealed by awnings. It shares a Terrace with an establishment which looks to be more of a coffee shop. On the subject of coffee, do not expect a cappucino in Toris but I had the strangest and best Greek coffee ever - quite long and served in a tea cup. I might never know whether this was because I had asked for a capuccino. Our group had pork chop, lamb kontosouvli and paidakia x2, salad, chips x 4, 3 sodas ,1 beer and 2 coffees. It was very cheap and at three of us thought the meat was very good. It and Konitsa had been recommended by our Trekking Hellas rafting guide, Panos. The old bridge alone makes Konitsa a nice detour if you are in the area.

The tavern Dendro in Konitsa is the best place in the region.
Its very nice owner Joannis, prepares dishes of Greek cuisine, unsurpassed.
Unforgettable the meat to the grill and in the oven.
All washed down with fine wine or beer.
To conclude with brandy distilled by hand.

Went there expecting a lot as we had read about it in a book but unfortunatelly did not check reviews before going. The hotel is in a beautiful area and itself is nice and classic though in need for of renovation. The service was painfully slow and the food was just plain average and personally did not like it and nor did my partner. Prices massively overpriced and would not go there again.

Set in the picturesque village of Papigko, this is is a nice cafe with flowers and grapevines and a variety of beverages and waffles. A bit pricey, though!
