A warm welcome. Tasty homemade food including incredible puddings. The spotted dick was light and delicious as was the chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce. Sandwiches generously fillec. The chickpea and spinach Korma was very good. Beware the 'mild' chilli is hot. Apparently the 'hot' chilli is mindblowingly! A really lovely place.

Small, family run restaurant. Open 10.30 to 2pm for coffee, cakes, lunch and from 5pm for evening meals. Pizza night every Wednesday. Closed all day Sunday.
Great tasting food , cooked to perfection by friendly chef and served by lovely cheery staff. The tomato soup was absolutely fantastic, as were the lamb and venison dishes both served with ample delicious vegetables . The chips that accompanied the meal were just great. Would have loved to have a sweet but just too full after such generous plates. A lovely little place to enjoy friendly service, terrific food in cosy surroundings.

SEE OUR HOTEL REVIEWS THE Selkirk ARMS HOTEL many guests are still posting food review on the Hotel web site as well...Choice of dining areas in this 17 bedroom town house hotel. Choose from the Bar, Bistro or Restaurant where the same a la caret menu is available throughout. Both open to the public and hotel residents daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dine at a leisurely pace with cosy settees, casual dining areas, free wi fi and a relaxed atmosphere. Although a hotel the food is the big attraction here and it is very popular with locals. The Chef won Dumfries and Galloway Chef of the Year in 2012. A great selection of beers and real ales are on tap.
This is without doubt our favourite place to eat in the Stewartry. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Service is always superb and the whole place gives off a warm relaxing feeling with quality food to match. Menus change on a regular basis and there always something different to try if you like experimenting a little. They use local produce and local suppliers although a slight criticism would be that they use Dalbeattie for their meat when there is an excellent butcher in the town which has recently changed hands and would deserve a chance. That aside the Selkirk ticks all the boxes for me.

Freshly cooked Fish and Chips,Scallops,Halibut,Salmon and lots more.Seating for 40. B.Y.O.B..No corkage charge and glasses provided. Reservations recommended.
Wanted to purchase food here just after lunch but was waiting on another family member in the shop nearby. I spoke to the fryer, explained we were going to get our take away lunch and he reassured me there was no rush, they were open all day. We all returned 7 minutes later to find the place completely shut up. Rather annoying and odd we thought after knowing customers were on their way and telling us they were open all day. Never the less we thought we would give them another try the following evening, as the reviews were very good. Most expensive fish supper from a eat in chippy I have ever paid for. Over £10.50 for a large haddock with chips. (Which was actually just two medium Haddocks.) Mushy peas were £1.30 extra each!!! Buttered bread also extra. The whole meal came to nearly £30 for two adults and a child without peas or bread. The chips were dried out and chewy and the fish pretty average. Certainly not worth the price. And I paid £1.50 for a tiny bottle of cheap lemonade. A full bottle of Coca Cola was cheaper at 85p??!! Sadly won't be visiting again, I had superb fish and chips at a nearby top restaurant for a couple of quid extra!

Coffee shop serving freshly cooked meals and home baking. Afternoon teas and high teas available.
Have visited here a few times and yesterday tried their soup. Choice of three soups and chose parsnip and pear. Sounds odd but was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed it. We have also had their tomato and red pepper and again was first class. My wife had a cheese scone which was huge and tasty too. Coffee first class and piping hot which is lacking in many places. Will be back

We were enjoying the Arts and Crafts Trail round Kirkcudbright when the rain started bucketing down we dashed into this tea room and were made very welcome.
I enjoyed delicious vegetable soup and my daughter had sandwiches stuffed with filling. My husband enjoyed his lunch and we finished with scones - lovely.
Will visit next time we're on holiday.

Had a lovely Christmas lunch here this week. Served absolutely piping hot and stayed hot till the last bite. The Christmas pudding and brandy sauce, whilst not overwhelming in size was an adequate portion.
Service was prompt and the waitresses were attentive and polite
Parking was convenient at the front door, failing that there is plenty of parking nearby in the Harbour Square.
Always worth a return visit. I will be back. Thank you.

The Belfry Cafe offers a range of breakfasts, brunch and lunch options from snacks to main meals plus a good selection of scones, tray bakes and cakes plus excellent Matthew Algie coffee. Children's menu available. Free Wifi, newly refurbished toilets, baby change, high chair and plenty of Reading material available.
Went into this little cafe of a monday afternoon and had a hot drink with my wife, very pleasant young lady served us and we thought if we were passing during lunchtime during the week we would stop again.
On the Thursday we did just that and ordered some lunch. as we sat down a lady came over and asked us for our order. We smiled and advised we had literally just sat down, She went away and returned within 2 or 3 minutes... a ridiculously short period. I asked for a few minutes more, She returned a third time and took our order.
The food cannot be faulted.
Having finished they took an eternity to remove the plates, occupying themselves with a cockup over a panini to another table.
When they did eventually remove the plates they didnt ask if we wanted anything else...which we dd but eventually gave up, paid and left,
Incredibly poor service second time around.

We loved it so much, we went back two nights later. We needed a takeaway so we could eat and play by the stunning Kirkcudbright Bay whilst on holiday.
We were put off by the other dirty looking takeaway up the road, but as soon as we went into Canton House, the smell was amazing. There's lots to chose from and the staff are lovely.
The food was good value, red hot and delicious. The homemade battered onions rings were a real and unexpected treat (I wish our local takeaways would cook these). The rice was light and both meat and vegetarian dishes were excellent.
Definitely will be back next year.

Just returned from a wonderful few days staying at Arden House with family (2 rooms, one of which was booked very short notice after other accommodation fell through).
The hotel is in a beautiful and quiet location with lovely Gardens, and the rooms are beautifully decorated, spacious and comfy with a nice selection of tea and coffee.
Dinner in the restaurant was lovely, and the chef prepared a lovely vegan meal with no prior notice which was really appreciated. Breakfast was also delicious with unexpected vegan options for us, and we can't thank Billy enough for going to so much effort to accommodate us and make us all feel welcome.
We'll definitely return and can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
Thanks for a great stay!
