Not that easy to see from street, because it's downstairs of Hotel Cumulus, actually same restaurant serves hotel's breakfast. Friendly service and really generous and tasty portions for that money. Menu is really safe Italian, but they have some nice surprises. For example they have complimentary salad buffet with some "home made" delicious roasted peanuts. Extra points for them, that they opened us separate section for little business meeting

Teatteriravintola is a traditional restaurant that is located in the old Joensuu city hall building. The same building houses the local city theatre and, indeed, the restaurant and threatre are an integral part of the same package, where you can have a drink during the interval. Yet, it is also possible to visit the place just to have a dinner. The menu is relatively short and contains traditional Finnish food. Portions are elegant but relatively small.

Had dinner at Kielo with colleagues as it was recommended for its high quality modern Finnish cuisine and it did not dissppointed us.
First course of mixed small starters with artic char paté, smoked lamb and chèvre cheese motley was very good.
Main course of pike-perch with artichoke cream and smoked corns was very well presented and tasty with the fish expertly done.
Panacotta dessert was quite good, if maybe too much gourmandise.
I highly recommend this restaurant while in Joensuu! It is great that you can now find innovative and high quality dining in 2nd tier Finnish cities.

We stumbled on this hidden gem in this eastern-most city of Finland, after trying several other top venues on TripAdvisor and Yelp, saddened to find that most of them were closed for lunch on Sunday.
Ravintola Aada is connected to both the shopping center and the hotel that it shares its name with - however, that's where the similarities end. In contrast, the restaurant is quite well-appointed - seated in booths and tables and chairs of mahogany, you dine on fare of the quality you'd find in Michelin-recommended restaurants.
We shared a chanterelle cream soup, that had plenty of fresh mushrooms and came with a piece of rye bread.
We were each served a amuse bouche of a creamy butternut-carrot soup, that came in a cute espresso cup.
My friend had a vegetarian entree - which looked beautiful.
I ordered the arctic char. It arrived looking quite pretty with the two slabs of fish surrounding the potato souffle. The fish had a slightly crisped skin and was excellently cooked - smooth and juicy. The strips of veggies were a good contrast to the softness of the fish. Olive oil and the usual green sauce.
We were expecting a basic meal, but the quality and care was surprisingly comparable to Michelin-recommended restaurants I've tried in NYC.

This buffet lunch restaurant is centrally located. It is on the upstairs thus needs someeffort to find it but worth of looking! Very friendly and everything is tasty. You pay by the weight but it is inexpensive. They also have raw cakes and some wines and smoothies. Downstairs a small outdoors Terrace to have a coffee.
Very charming!

Restaurant Kreeta has moved near river Pielisjoki. Situation is historically and beautiful. New terrance is nice and ful of customers in summertime. The hole renovation has been success! Good food; Moussaka is better than in Greece! Congratulations! Thanks to hole group; especially Lakis, Mikis and Anna! We'll be seeing soon!

We dropped in to have some lunch. The actual lunch time was already past and the kitchen was having a one hour preparation break. Anyway we were kindly told that we were able to place our orders. We decided to have burgers; one veggie, one with pork and two specials (the other designed by a local musician and the other called Dimmu Burger). The portions came quickly and were nicely decorated. The side salad was very fresh. The burgers were just great, tasty and made with great care and imagination. And the service: it was excellent, friendly and effective. This was really a nice experience. Highly recommended!

Pizzas are good, you can choose the fillings. At lunchtime the place was full of people and we needed to wait for a table. They take Reservations. Place serves pizzas and salads.

Houkutus offers you all sorts of bakery goods, cakes, salads and drinks. The decoration is very cute and makes you want to stay even after you've finished your delicious slice of cake. The prices are quite high, but definitely worth it every once in a while. The cakes are the best in town, they're great to order, collect and serve in your parties.
