Rio Piedras Parrilla Bar is a restaurant located in the main square of Jericó. It has a varied and high quality cousine.
I ca nnot give it an excellent because we had some issues with service, in their defense, we were a very large group and that could have caused some chaos, however, food was good, I ordered beef, which i am always skeptic to order in small Colombian towns, the term was not medium as I had ordered but it was very tasty and side orders and appetizers were really good.
Located on the main square, there is not really a lot of ambiance on the place, dont be fooled by the look of their location, but their food we really enjoyed.

There is no secret when we say that being vegetarian in Colombia is a little difficult. My vegetarian friends found tasty food in here. Their sanduiches are pretty tasty.

I am Paladino and I wish to share my favorite place to eat in Jerico. La Gruta is a relatively new restaurant seems to know how to hit on all cylinders. The owners always make a point to meet every customer it seems, every time I visit they are attentative but professional in a warm way. The decor is rustic, tasteful, clean and warm with tables and booths to sit a nice bar and a series of Antioquian Baconies provided fresh air and views of the pueblo...you will enjoy being in their space and they make you feel like you are going to have a great meal. And guess what? You will.
[Highlights]
-Pizza only available at dinner service but is a delight to eat, serving generous and toppings abundant the anti-thesis of Colombian pizza, I will explain. Colombians have no I idea what real pizza taste like so the things they sell in Colombia called pizza is usually below frozen pizza quality you can buy at a supermarket in the USA or Europe. But La Gruta is owned and operated by persons with years of international experience and they have brought back that influence to develop their own recipes using the fresh ingredients of Colombia with more refined and sophisticated techniques and recipes of better quality eats. Their pizza is a reflection of that experience, bottom like pizza is good and a tie with Tomatitos Pizzeria for best pizza in Jerico.
- Executive Lunch [Weekdays].... A great deal, choice of meat and their side salad is a fresh treat being that salad greens are not available anywhere else in Jerico on a daily basis. They are not just slinging frijoles and a cold hard arepa at you. Though a expensive lunch, it’s not a cheap lunch, the attention to detail is obvious and you will leave pretty hard stuffed for $5.... a deal during the week. In a land famous for it's Sancocho soup, their side of soup at La Gruta was a standout, crisp, clean, hearty without being oversalted like many recipes in Colombia.
-Hamburgers [My Favorite ironically is the Sencillo Burger but only because I like smaller serving]
Let me say it up, I am not a huge fan of Colombia-Style Hamburgers which often tend to have little consideration for the quality of ground meat relying on frozen patties which are not top quality in Colombia but just as sad is Colombia's heavy dependence up on cheap mass produced salsas ...Salsa Rosada being the biggest offense of almost anything ever done to a hambuger or hotdog not to mention Salsa de Pina. Colombians love it but it just to very good stuff in my opinion. Now let’s give credit to La Gruta as we are talking about a fresh ground beef from local artisan ranching and local butchering, cooked in the SmashBurger style [as well as other great American burgers] where a fresh ‘never’ frozen ground beef is smashed onto a very, very hot griddle producing a love affair of crusty, brown, fatty heaven while preserving the slightest small center of pink....This is the sign of people of who SHOULD be in the restaurant business...not something i usually get to say about owners. La Gruta makes no only the most one of only two artisan style burgers [other being Parrilla Montana] in Jerico but makes the best burger in Jerico and they do have competition with Parrilla Montana just steps away, my former favorite before La Gruta arrived recently. My only and I mean ONLY shortcoming at La Gruta is their french fries...they produce tasty fresh cut fries but to be honest the fries don't deserve to be on the same place at their burgers. The burgers at La Gruta are the King Of Burgers for Jerico and to be fair the best burger I have had in coming and eating in Colombia in over three years of visits and living there. The special sauce and balanced construction is a delight for the appetite. I hope that La Gruta reevaluates the fries as it’s the only takedown of a super meal.

Went there for dinner on my first evening in Jerico because it has a balcony on the main square. The fact that it was completely empty should have been a warning which I chose to ignore. I ordered battered robalo fish which came with rice, patacon and coleslaw. None of it was edible. Both the fish and patacon tasted like they were fried in old oil, and the fish was watery like it had just been defrosted. Worst meal I have had during my 5 weeks (so far) in Colombia.

A small cute place up the 100 step stairs from the main square. Was pleased to locate this place during my walk through the pueblo. Offers light meals like sandwiches and wraps, and an array of juices and smoothies. A refreshing change from the mostly Colombian cuisine restaurants in Jerico.

This is probably the most delightful coffee shop I have ever visited. The place is charming and relaxed. They roast their own coffees and a wide selection is available for sale. The service is outstanding and the prices extremely reasonable. No visit to Jerico would be complete without a visit here to enjoy a coffee or beer.

We sat outside watching the world go by. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was not bad at all - note exactly fine dining but it was all perfectly well cooked and served with good quality ingredients. The price was very reasonable. The interior décor was wacky. The main negative was uncomfortable chairs.

My family and I were more than happy to visit this wonderful place while in Jericó! We had a delicious breakfast ordering from their salty, fried and sweet local food treats. Our meal included moist tomato and onion scrambled eggs with Arepa ( a local delicacy), Papa rellena ( a variation of a stuffed potato ) , Buñuelo ( fried cheese fritter ) and a sweet Rollo ( sugary roll ). All accompanied by a cup of mild Colombian coffee. Strongly recommended to everyone visiting this important historic town in Antioquia.

Disfrute del más delicioso pollo a la brasa en Jericó y sus alrededores. Con una receta de la abuela que ha sido utilizada durante más de 35 años, este pollo hará de su almuerzo y cena una experiencia maravillosa.
The attention was great, clean place, very tasty "postres" and generous portions. I'll come back soon to try the chicken pie.

First time in my life I tried "tomate de árbol" dessert and it was a surprise. Besides that I tried "mamey" dessert too. Very good. It's interesting how the owners can use any/almost-any kind of fruit to prepare their postres. And the portions, very generous.
Thank you guys :)
