I visit Hengelo usually about once a year and every year I also go to de Appel. I first visited the place in 1989. It has recently had a make over, but it still has its' nice atmosphere. The food is quite good and service is always friendly. I can recommend de Appel for groups of friends and couples.

Away from home on a cold Saturday night in a small Dutch city. Looking for ambiance, good food, and good wine and finding lots of everyday cafés. And then running out of places to eat at the end of the street there is de Bourgondier!
An inviting and warm view through the window from the street. A small cosy fire and bookshelves highlight a friendly looking bar. Going inside
greeted immediately with such an inviting hello by Madam of the house. Coat taken and hung while I am invited for a drink at the bar. Bar is well stocked and a comfort on a cold night in a small city while on business.
With a nice aperitif in front of me I am handed the menu in Dutch which I can't read. Madam offers to translate the dishes and inquiries as to my food likes and suggests the chef can prepare a special meal. Wow! Not your typical restaurant at all.
Starter is duck three ways served with a dark bread that is heaven by itself. Main corse is a tender lamb shank on a tomato sauce risotto. I do not normally like tomato sauce, but this sauce is different in a very good way.
A well matched wine and I forget its cold and I am away from home. Both the starter and main course are exceptional. Proper size, quality over quantity, subtitle and wonderful flavors. All the things one wants every time they dine.
A simple but heavenly apple strudel dessert and and a digestive cap off a memorable dinner. Time stood still while in this little spot of food heaven.
About two hours from Amsterdam or Dusseldorf airports by train. Hengelo is a nice relaxing little city with a great shopping area and a vibrant Saturday market. Just make sure you treat yourself and schedule time for a special dinner at de Bourgondier Restaurant.

The starter was tasty, the main course we found tasteless. Another problem was that we could not really understand each other because there was a lot of noise. So a conversation was difficult. The tables are just too close together. Really annoying. You just have to move the table to get behind the table when you're sitting in the middle of the couch. The waitresses stand between the tables with the long hair over your table, not really nice. All in all a disappointing experience.

All You Can Eat Sushi & Grill restaurant
We finally got to visit this sushi place after being on our todo list for a long time already. Staff was really very friendly. I loved their tablet style ordering. Nice, easy and fast service. No irritating sitting with your filled out paper waiting forever for a waiter to pick it up. Nice easy insight in your current bill and Delivery status of your food.
The menu is a bit smaller than what I'm used to from other Sushi places, but still a nice variety of things. Taste is good. Good quality food. Their fresh fruit dessert only contained melon and two pieces of pineapple. Could use more variety. Liked it that the Deserts were includes in the all you can eat price. Sometimes you see they charge extra for it, but not here.
American Express is not accepted. Visa is.
Will certainly go here again.

Welcome at Restaurant 't Lansink, situated in the monumental Tuindorp 't Lansink. We will surprise you with our Local-French cuisine by our topchef Lars van Galen. We offer also private dining rooms or you can have dinner at our chef's table in the kitchen.
I have stayed before in this hotel the quality of the rooms are above extra ordinary luxury, clean, warm and pleasant. The service is also exceptional, however that said with the room key when you check in, you are given a electronic tag key, because if you return late after 12:30 to the hotel, you can use the electronic tag simply to get into the hotel, all good, until when I returned with my group, someone at the hotel had double bolt locked the door from the inside, preventing us from getting into the hotel main entrance.
We eventual got in after going round the back and one staff member was fortunately still at the hotel, but was about to depart to go home.
That was not smart of the hotel, so I hope that the hotel puts in place a check procedure so this never happens again.

Visited this restaurant on Saturday night. The food was absolutely stunning and the waitresses were so friendly helpful and all spoke excellent English.
The quality of the food was A* .
We ordered as a main course Mousakka which was one of the best my partner had ever tasted and my lamb skewer was 'huge' but the meat was so tender and cooked to perfection.
House wine good and very reasonably priced. Then moving onto desserts!, presentation and again quality was wonderful - Strongly recommend any visitors in Hengelo to try this restaurant , you won't be disappointed :-)

We have a lovely few beers at DeTwee Wezen. The waiters are very sweet and helpful. Even though the cheese and sausages board came when we almost had drank our first beers. They had only just the bok beer of the Twentsche brewery. But the Gulper beer was also nice. The cheese board sausage was delicious. We have really enjoyed our time here.

Nice restaurant, although a bit draughty. The waiters were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. It is an Indian restaurant but the taste of the curries etc. is very mild and not like the Indian food i am used to eating in England. Can work out to be quite expensive with drinks included.

Needed to grab a late meal and all the higher end restaurants in the area were closed for food given the hour. This place seemed to be more of a bar than a restaurant and this was evidenced by the food. Nearly everything on the menu was deep fried although the food was tasty and very reasonably priced. The portions were enormous (neither of us finished our plate) and the service was efficient and friendly.
