Casa del Mar opened in January 2006 and is part of the Krimo's group of restaurants, the first of which opened in Seaton Carew on 4th May 1985. The Tapas Restaurant, located on Navigation Point, overlooks Hartlepool's popular Marina. Casa del Mar mixes Spanish, Mexican and North African cuisines to serve a delicious combination of Tapas, Fajitas as well as Large Dishes. Various Cocktails are on offer alongside Spanish draft and bottled beers. The delicious Sangria rivals that served in Spain, we are told.
I’d just like to start this review by saying that I’m not disappointed with the quality of the food or service. I have been eating here for years, and the food has always remained such a high quality, and so delicious. Furthermore, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad experience in terms of service, so these reflect the quality of the restaurant itself.
However, I do feel that since the place has been taken over, there have been less benefits for the customer, as I noticed when I went for food on Tuesday.
Firstly, there seem to be a lot more supplements to pay on dishes, especially within the ‘rapido’ lunch menu. Every other dish seemed to have an ‘extra’ payment.. I don’t ever remember having to pay £1 extra to get chicken fajitas? I know it’s only £1, but I just don’t understand why it’s necessary.
Also, when it came to paying, I asked the gentleman behind the bar if I could put the points on my loyalty card, to have been told that these were stopped last October. I don’t visit as much as I used to, as I now live in Durham, but why take something away from customers? It was a little perk that I liked having; accumulating points after so many meals meant that you could then spend those points on a meal at a later date. It’s things like this that get customers to keep coming back.
Also, I had a look through the Facebook page back to last August/September time, and there was no mention to the public about getting rid of loyalty cards. I feel that if you’re going to stop something, you should atleast make public aware, so that those customers who had been saving their points, could have atleast used them.
It’s a shame, because I’ve always spoke highly about Casa, but I just feel a bit let down.

Portofino is a bistro-pizzeria on the Historic Quay. It overlooks Hartlepool's most famous attraction, HMS Trincomalee. Surrounded by free car parks, it is the ideal venue for lazy lunchtimes, fast teatime treats and party nights.
We've been regular customers here since it opened many years ago. Sunday lunch today was.... tepid, salty soup with yesterday's bread, some of it crusts.
We then waited 40 minutes for our second course. After no sign of this ,and I had tried to catch the waitresses attention, no luck.we decided to go. Walked into the restaurant at 1pm, left at 2pm, never again!!

Visited recently and it’s still providing excellent food. Extensive menu with plenty of variety.
The food is cooked to perfection with good size portions.
One of our party has to stick strictly to a gluten free diet and there was plenty of choice. They even offered to prepare some of the dishes to make them gluten free.
Certainly can’t fault the food or the service.

We went to Church Street with the intention of having an Indian but spotted a sign for a £10.50 special and so went in.
£10.50 for prawn crackers (not great) any soup or starter and any main meal (except sea food) with rice and jasmine tea to finish. Great value and the food was excellent. We had Tom Kha and Tom Yum soups, both very tasty, followed by jungle curry and the seafood special as mains. All the food was really tasty and just the right degree of spices etc. (£2 surcharge for the main but well worth it)
The service was very attentive, polite and friendly.
We will definately return and I would certainly recommend it.

Decided to sit in this time & what a pleasure. Visited with my partner on Sunday afternoon, sat in the window. 5 STAR service by the young lady even though she was on her own & what looked like a few tables to manage. Service with a smile, polite & friendly and made us feel very welcome. Food was tasty and fresh. Can’t recommend enough. We’ll be back (again)

Went last week with a Groupon Voucher. When we asked for peas and bread we were told that they were £1.30 extra for each item. "They had just brought in this extra charge this week". (turkishfan reviewer was lucky to not be charged for the bread and butter) and no it wasn't an honest mistake but an illegal change imposed by the manager.
When checked the Groupon deal clearly states "The meal includes: chips | small cod or breaded scampi | bread and butter | choice of peas, beans, curry or gravy | pot of tea or coffee, or soft drink". (copied and pasted from the deal). This exact dish on the menu in the restaurant is £5.99, equivalent to the claimed £11.98 value quoted for two in the Groupon deal.
We have tried to speak to the manager 3 times (Michelle we were told) who imposed the change. Keep getting promised she will ring back - and doesn't. It looks like she is trying to get a few more £s out of unsuspecting Groupon customers for items that cost them pence.
The Groupon advert is therefore misleading and hence this is illegal.
Fish as always was good, service is slow. But will not be going to the restaurant again because of this sharp practice.
Hopefully putting this as a Terrible review will wake the manager who set this illegal practice up to the error of her ways. (My first ever terrible review)

I came here for brunch with my friend once and even after eating a huge sausage and bacon bun I had to get a slice of blueberry cake as it looked amazing... ...it was amazing!

Went with a friend for first time following trip adviser recommendations.
What a lovely carvery, everything fresh and tasty, big plates and generous portion of meat. Cost £11.75 which is more than I'd normally pay but was worth it for a treat.
Was very busy, had to book even tho just two of us, serve 12-4, friendly staff nice environment.
