We dropped by Hoto Fudo for an early lunch. We ordered their signature hot noodle soup and the zaru soba. The hot noodles soup was delicious and flavorful; the portion is big and perhaps is good for 1 person in this cold weather. Zaru soba was alright. Note that this restaurant has like only 1 or 2 meat dishes.

I've been in Japan 4 years and this is up there with one of the best places I've eaten at.
We all went for the pork hōtō and ordered some tsukemono too. They have different meat options on the menu including turtle, bear and wild boar. We kept it simple and the food was unreal. It's a bit expensive but worth it. The restaurant is within walking distance from the lake. They have an English menu and also a gift shop inside the restaurant. It was busy when we got here and they wouldn't accept any more people after us. Being told that they were closing towards the end of our meal was unprofessional and irritating too as we felt rushed.

We lunched at Restaurant Uminoie as part of a Mt Fuji tour and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Full credit to JTB Sunrise Tours for placing this superb restaurant on the itinerary. We enjoyed the lunch and experience so much that we plan to return and dine there on our future trips to Mt Fuji and Fujiyoshida.
Our tour group was treated to a terrific gastronomical experience - a comprehensive seafood/meat set - within a private, tatami-mat function room upstairs. The food was obviously fresh, well-prepared, wonderfully presented and, most importantly, tantalisingly delicious! We dine on Japanese cuisine very regularly, and we found the quality and quantity of food served fantastic. In any case, second to none for an equivalent restaurant.
The restaurant's staff was great. They were warm, extremely pleasant and polite - typical Japanese characteristics which is why they are so endearing - and couldn't be more helpful. They went out of their way to welcome and to assist us.
The delights offered by this restaurant can be seen on their website. It will also be difficult to locate on your own, without referring to their Japanese address shown therein. However Tripadvisor rules restrict inclusion of web addresses in reviews, so try a search using this’ fujisan-uminoie’.
You can review their 'public' and 'group' menus on the website including prices. Our lunches were however included in our tour. From our experience around Japan, I can state that their prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity. For instance, via their 'public' menu, you can enjoy lunch for as little as Y1000; with tray or platter type lunches upwards of Y1500. If you go for the full platter experience, it will cost you up to Y3000. Even then, this is reasonable considering the likely gastronomical experience.
From the perspective of a diner and tourist, I can highly recommend this restaurant and would classify it as a 'must do' for Mt Fuji and Fujiyoshida.
Tip: The restaurant carpark and area across the road are great places to take photos of Mt Fuji. While the peak is approximately 12km from the restaurant, the presence of the mountain is obvious.
Thanks for Reading this review and my gratitude if you choose to rate it as helpful. No pressure though. Cheers!

I could give it 5 stars but kept it for my next visit. Best UDON I had till now. Their noodles and soup little different.Very cheap, delicious, clean restaurant. Unlike other YOSHIDA style noodles, their noodles are little soft. Very popular to the locals. Very crowded, there are usually a queue in front of the restaurant. Car parking available but always full. Highly recommending.

In all honesty I believe there is plenty of great udon restaurants out there, but this small, seemingly family run place has given me my nicest udon experience I've had in my life. Apparently open only from 10-14 during the day we arrived there around noon on a weekday and the restaurant was entirely empty, unlike on Sundays as described in other reviews. You step in and on the right you see the kitchen where the udons are prepared from freshly made dough and on the left you have the living room sized main room for guests. My wife and I both had a standard udon soup with meat and I even had a second round because it was so good. The broth was heart warming and the fresh udon noodles were the best I've ever had.
If I travel to Japan again, which I certainly will, I most definitely will stop by here again. So if you're visiting the area and are looking for an authentic udon experience, this is the place to be.

This place would not have been easy to find without a cab. It is located in a neighborhood close to the Cherito Pagoda. It was a fantastic udon noodle restaurant, and very inexpensive. The noodles were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. They had an english menu and were very welcoming to English speaking guests. Highly recommend this!

Family-run noodle shop specialising in udon noodles. Cheap but superb. Get hiyashi tanuki (wasabi flavour) and order kaedama. For kaedama, add the home made chilli paste. Always crowded with locals.
