Dungarvan (Irish: Dún Garbhán, meaning "Garbhann's Fort") is a coastal town and harbour in County Waterford, on the south coast of Ireland. Prior to the merger of Waterford County Council with Waterford City Council in 2014, Dungarvan was the county town and administrative centre of County Waterford. Waterford City and County Council retains administrative offices in the town. The town's Irish name means "Garbhann's fort", referring to Saint Garbhann who founded a church there in the seventh century. The town lies on the N25 road (European route E30), which connects Cork, Waterford and Rosslare Europort.

The Tannery Restaurant, Dungarvan, Co Waterford. Modern Irish Cooking. Chef/Owner Paul Flynn.
We ate here on a quiet enough Thursday night. We were late starting our meal but had phoned ahead to say we would be arriving late. I had followed the career of chef Paul Flynn over the years and was really looking forward to this much anticipated meal! As it was already 8.40 we decided straight away to go for the Tasting Menu which it said on the menu had to be ordered by 9pm latest so we were well within the time, the waiter also did double check in the kitchen that we were. So to begin....the bread basket arrived. Extremely disappointing over cooked very dry brown Soda bread - no other type at all, served with a mediocre onion butter. Not a great start! All in all the tasting menu was good, not outstanding. Our favourites were Venison Braesola and Charred Cod. These were extremely tasty and imaginative. The slow cooked beef rib was very nice but nothing special. The desert was peanut and honeycomb ice-cream and poached pear. Nice but again, something that could easily be put together at home. The ending unfortunately was as negative as the beginning. The cheese.....described as 'A taste of Cheese' - what arrived was blue cheese on walnut and date bread. The bread was tasty although I would say had been defrosted, as within minutes it was going hard and chewy. The cheese very much looked like the last bit left in the kitchen and to only serve one type on a tasting menu was very disappointing. Also we were fairly rushed through the meal - the manager actually joked with us that we were galloping through it! At €65 it was ok priced but my general feeling at the end was one of disappointment. I'm not quite sure it lives up to the reputation it has built.

I had a 3 cheeses starter which I enjoyed, but they were very strong and could do with more chutney.
I'd steak for main, I asked and got medium rare however it was so tough that it was awful i got served 5 chips with it. Another person in our party onky got 1 and a half mushrooms on her plate. The steak cost €6 extra.
Someone else got the chicken and it was to dry to eat and so was the hake.

Feeling very hungry in Dungarvan we decided to give this restaurant a visit. What a good decision this proved to be. Two excellent main courses, piping hot with full plates were served promptly by a cheerful and obliging waitress.
I would highly recommend this establishment with its lovely food and well mannered staff.

Ormonds is our favorite spot for light fare or a full meal. The owner, Dave, will make sure you have a great experience. The staff is well trained, friendly and willing to make your dining experience special. Stop in for a delicious full Irish breakfast, lunch or just great coffee and the killer chocolate cake. For something light just have a cuppa and a scone (everything is made fresh in house). There is parking in Grattan Square in front of the cafe and the first half hour is free.

We stayed here as the location is very convenient to the Waterford Greenway. Having read the recent poor reviews, we were a bit scared but glad we weren't put off entirely! Staff were very pleasant. I had requested a non-smoking room but was allocated a dreary room which stank of smoke and air-freshener. I requested a room change and the lady on reception, who was very pleasant and helpful, organised this immediately. The 'newly renovated' room I was then assigned was fine, although II don't understand why I wasn't allocated the better room at the offset. The place is undergoing an obvious renovation. The exterior and the bar/restaurant and lobby are all updated and clean. We could smell smoke from other rooms in our room and the noise levels from the hall in the morning were very high. Breakfast was a bit cramped but nice. Our evening meal in the restaurant was nice and staff were happy to cater to vegetarians. The staff really made the trip, I'd be glad to return and see how the renovations have progressed.

This Indian resturant is a favourite of mine. I work in the area and have been know to take out and bring it 25 miles Home !
The resturant is on the quay side in Dungarvan. It is very scenic and there is a car park near by. The resturant is located near several pubs so it’s the perfect place to start a night out.
The resturant is decorated well and is spotlessly clean. There is an alcohol licence and the resturant regularly gives a complementary taster.
The food is of very high quality ingredients. The ratio of meat to sauce is perfect and the portion sizes are generous.
The menu caters for all levels of spice from korma to vindaloo. Naan breads are fresh and moist. Food is cooked to order and is well worth the wait .
Great place to eat in or take out

We can strongly recommend here for afternoon dessert. Absolutely delicious.
So fresh and tasty and most importantly, homemade.
We went for Apple Crumble and the Interlude classic, Orange Drizzle Cake - both absolutely gorgeous.
The only drawback is the coffee there was Badger & Dodo which unfortunately doesn't make for good lattes.

The kids for a change had a lie in on Sunday morning so missed breakfast in the Hotel so we took a short walk around the corner and came across the Meades Cafe.
Nice casual interior, comfy seats, good menu & friendly staff. We had a range of food from pancakes to full Irish to the Special and all went down a treat.
Would definitely recommend a visit if in the town.
