Our driver for the the took us to this lovely place located on the beach a bit west of Tangalla centre. We had no expectations and were surprised about both the fantastic location and the nice food. We had fish of the day and prawns. Delicious and with a fantastic garlic sauce. I would definitely recommend it.

This friendly simple beach side restaurant is on a quite beach in an area otherwise devoid of nice restaurants.
The owner / manager / person preporting to be such, is a frieldy old Sri Lankan who will probably try and flag you down to have a chat to you if you ever find yourself on the beach in the daytime. He's too friendly to be classed as a tout though.
The food is seafood - that's pretty much it, and the entry level meal (other than some devilled dishes they try to discorage you from considering) is grilled fish for rs1500 which seems a bit steep. However, this includes surprisingly nice chips and salad (which oddly seem to be served as a starter) and a plate of fruit served as a desert.
The same price gets you calimari or prawns, and a slightly higher price gets you jambo prawns and lobster.
The grilled fish was very generously portioned, and infact was served as two bream-sized fish because they thought 1 was too small for one person. Nicely grilled and seasoned with light spices. The fish, like all their seafood was caught off the beach that day and tastes very fresh.
They serve wine which I didn't venture into, but the lion beer for rs200 per large bottle brings no complaints from me!
A bit more than your average meal in Sri Lanka but fresh fish on a beach is a good thing, so it's worth putting your hands in your pockets for.
(They also have a few rooms for hire, but we were staying at the nearby Ran Sea so didn't look into those.)

It’s a shame that the Cactus Lounge seems to be always busy yet this is much quieter. We loved it equally. The family who run it are friendly, accommodating and excellent cooks. Their salad which accompanies some of the dishes is exceptional. We went several times and enjoyed all visits immensely. Highly recommended.

we spent almost 2 weeks on hiriketiya beach and ate several times at this one of the 3 beach restaurants and were very impressed with the food
service was a little patchy, and you need to wait a fairly long time for your food to arrive - they are on sri lankan time :)
not everything on the menu is always available (including beer) and you do need to order really before 7.30 pm to get dinner - the chefs like to go home i think
HOWEVER we have had some of our most memorable meals there: try the noodles and rices (huge portions, freshly cooked), spaghetti with garlic or seafood, the sri lankan curry, and the other curries too. Beautifully cooked food - and having eaten elsewhere in sri lanka i can now say this place was one of the best.

We ate hear having read the reviews and weren't disappointed. The food was good plentiful and value for money. The service was good. The only thing that stopped us going another night was the noise from the road.Thank you for the response.Of course i understand the noise of the road is a issue Hope you enjoyed the meal.

The seafood was absolutely delicious-and is a welcome break from the buffet at Talalla retreat - we went several times and we weren't disappointed at all! The Seafood is very fresh - getting to pick our own fish. It's so quiet and on a beautiful beach! Well worth it!

We provide sea food and rice and curry with deep down south style, by using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking method for breackfast, lunch and dinner
We ate here twice during our three night stay in Tangalle and were very impressed both times. The host is a really lovely guy and the food is just as good. The best Sri Lankan food we've had to date. The different veggie curries were delicious, especially the pumpkin one. The place had a good ambience, helped by the 00s ballads sounding out. We can't recommend this place enough. A bit off the beaten track but don't miss it.

Marty the owner is a gem, full of good humour and interesting information. Anyone looking for a rustic surf vacation, this tics almost all the boxes. Plus they do make outstanding pizzas.
