This is a wonderful (stylish) restaurant on a great beach. Golden sands and a clear sea ensures a great day out. We had lunch (6 of us) at the restaurant where the service was fantastic and the food was just delicious. Cant recommend enough!

We have been to Socrates as a family many times and we were always impressed and thoroughly satisfied with its unrivaled excellence in the area.
First off, the positioning of the restaurant is optimal: an open outdoor Seating area commanding a marvelous Panorama of the surrounding bay and beyond. Situated close to the beach with exquisite views (especially after dark) across the Messenian gulf to Kalamata opposite. The restaurant is family run which lends it a welcoming and natural atmosphere. Thakis, who brings the food is a very warm and accommodating man more than happy to help his guests with tips about the area and local knowledge.
He speaks excellent English and taught us many interesting facts about the peninsula and its history.
Socrates himself is down for saying that all he knows is that he knows nothing. This is certainly true of those who have not eaten pork souvlaki at Socrates restaurant in Chrani. This really was outrageously good. The variety of fish are caught locally and complimented perfectly by the suited house white wine. I can recommend especially the red mullet that were remarkably fresh (still swimming earlier on the same day) and, when as expertly prepared and quickly served as it was at Socrates, were just unbeatable.
We also enjoyed the stuffed peppers, fried cheeses and chefs salad - in particular the local Saganaki cheese. A new discovery for us was a local sweet red wine similar to Marsala or Malaga called Mavrodafne which was rather special. The Baklava was a real treat and just right with a Greek coffee or short at the end of a meal.
This restaurant is really excellent with excellent value for money.
Great memories, great people and great food - check it out!

Yiannis gives you a big friendly welcome and speaks English well, Meals there are reliably good with plenty of choice. The atmosphere is of a traditionally family run Greek restaurant and we have always found the service attentive. To the reviewer who was not keen on the wine I would say that even in the same restaurants in Greece the wine can vary from week to week. Where ever you are, order a small amount of white or rose first and switch if you're not keen.

Tales of Olive Oil (TOO), was our destination last nighti. We drove to the Central Square, looked into the restaurant that we thought was TOO but, decided the atmosphere was a bit sterile and walked away. We stepped into the next cozy looking cafe that we found and surprisingly, when we received the menus - it was TOO!
Our server was the wife of the chef. We took her recommendations and were very pleased with our meal, the service and the atmosphere. It was the best dining experience that we've had so far in Greece, including Athens.
I wish them great successful with their endeavor. Food service is a demanding industry and it is obvious these two have their heart in the business. The first few years are difficult for restaurants. I predict a successful future for Tales of Olive Oil.

We came for dinner Sunday. Nice place right at the beach. Friendly staff and quick service. When ordering we were told that most cooked dishes were sold out. We got a variety of starters that tasted great. For main course I got the last portion of Mousakka and my husband got sea bass. Both tasty. My two daughters (13+21) got the two last portions of chicken in tomato sauce served with fries. My son (18) had a schnitzel with fries. Kids where very disappointed. Fries looked/tasted like they came from the freezer. Schnitzel dry.
Adding to the not so good experience was a couple at the next table smoking constantly for 1.5 hours.

We loved sitting at a front row table at this restaurant which is set on the verandah of the taverna, over-looking the sea.
The menu is perhaps a little more limited than some of the other tavernas in the village, but the food is lovely and well cooked. Prices are very reasonable - we generally paid around E30 in total for our meal - usually a starter between us ( portions are large), a main course each and a litre of very acceptable house wine. At the end of the meal we were given a free drink - ouzo or tsipoura (like grappa).

Venetia made its name in pizzas but expanded with more choices. Centrally located in the seaside of the main Petalidi square, it is a reliable choice for comfort Greek food including pizza and spaghetti. You should not expect though outstanding execution of the dishes or the pizzas.
Will I go again? I have and I will, it is a reliable choice for Petalidi.

Right out of Petalidi, there is this exceptional restaurant. At first it doesn't seem like much, but do not judge a book by its cover.
The food is absolutely delicious! The people who run/work there are simple, honest & surely know how to use goods grown in their backyard!
Greek salad made of vegetables cut rift at the moment of your order, rooster raised by the owner, homemade pasta, VERY tasty recipes, are only few of the pros of this restaurant!
Prices are low for the quality & size of the portions.
We had kanellonia, pasta with rooster in tomato sauce, a Greek salad, a can of cola & a bottle of water.
ALL the dishes were delicious!
Total price €20 (ONLY!!!)
In the evening they also offer various barbecued kinds of meat.
Do not miss the opportunity to visit this restaurant!

Our traditional restaurant is located 13 km from Kalamata and 5 km from the airport on the way to Pylos, on the vast and unique beach of Analipsi - Messini. In our traditional restaurant, which has been awarded the certified Greek cuisine signal, you can taste traditional dishes based on well-known for its quality Mesinnia’s olive oil. We wouldnt reccomend leaving without tasting some of our specialties such as traditional rooster pasta, Cod fish with our sauce, salted & smoked meat, kagiana* and grilled sardines. Taste our local wine and some other flavors that our kitchen can offer you. Furthermore we can offer you fresh eggs, traditional Feta cheese from Messinia and Kalamata olives and ofcourse Kalamata Olive oil. The meat we use are all local, and farmed by us. Free parking and safe playground for our little friends
We visited the restaurant more the 10 times during our stay in the area. Always the same quality- freshly cooked- best materials used. All the traditional dishes are perfect. Ideal for families. Cool dining areas all day long. Very good service.
