In response to the anonymous Facebook reviewer: yes it is true that Sara can be...hmmm... exuberantly friendly, but that does NOT detract form the quality of the food or from the overall experience.
It is still and always one of our favorite go-to places in Como.

Right off the beaten track, just behind the Serfontana Commercial Centre, Chiasso, you will find a hostelry that takes you back in time. Frequented by locals speaking in dialect, with a huge wood-burning fireplace, this 'grotto' (local name for a rustic eatery) can't have changed much in a hundred years.
But the food is extra special - the home-made noodles with wild mushrooms is spectacularly good (tagliatelle ai porcini), as are their pumpkin dishes, soup ( zuppa di zucca) and dumplings ( gnocchi di zucca).
Recipes are based on local and seasonal produce. Try the Tomini - locally made soft cheeses.
Just one word of warning - the bill - like everything else in Switzerland - is not old-fashioned!

We booked our Reservations (highly recommended) at Trattoria del Glicine based on TripAdvisor reviews and seconded by the concierge at Villa d'Este. We were not disappointed. We had delicious steak tartare and zucchini blossoms for starters, pasta with duck and the best pork shank that I have ever had anywhere for our main courses. The ambiance was upscale and yet relaxed. The service was helpful including excellent recommendations for food and wine. The prices were modest. And the food was some of the best we had in a three week trip in Italy. Highly recommended

Kitchen restaurant is the fine dining option for all ones are looking for a revised Italian cuisine in a sophisticated yet informal atmosphere opened onto the green. Executive Chef: Francesco Soletti
We had beef tartare, shrimp scampi, black cod, turbot, and tiramisu, coconut/caramel for dessert. All portions are proper for medium Americans that come in hungry. The beef tartare was exquisite with a bit of muted sweetness and flavorful pistachio pesto. The shrimp scampi with foie gras was light, but very flavorful. The black cod (not black in color) was cooked to perfection and when combined with the white bean mousse produced a rich, but delicate experience. The turbot was excellent with delicate asparagus, fava beans, chanterelles mushrooms. The tiramisu is much improved from the traditional (biscuit) ...frozen creme fresh, granulated cacau chocolate and cappuccino sauce. The caramel and coconut combination
was delightful with intense caramel and delicate coconut undertone. Also try the Mirto aperitif to end your experience.....chocolate undertone with light cherry flavor.

Great staff! Helpful, friendly and all around charming. To start with we ordered pasta with porcini mushrooms, risotto with mushrooms and the capresi salad. For main course, shrimp with black rice, the sea bass and spaghetti with sauce and Lake Como trout. The most amazing dish.... The risotto was the best I have ever had. The prices are very reasonable.

This has been the best gnocchi I tried and the salads and the Deserts are amazing. Generous dish sizes and fresh ingredients are a deadly combination in any restaurant. It can be very crowded but that's ok if you have a reservation.

Family run, warm restaurant. Prices are slightly higher than average, but I feel relaxed every time I go there. Perfect for a business lunch or a romantic dinner.

Montereale family and the new chef Giordano Bertolina welcome you in a modern and informal ambience. High quality cuisine enriched with seasonal products. A wide range of fine wines is available, and the wine shop stocks 4,000 bottles from all over the world. Wine tastings can be organised on request. Restaurant Conca Bella is 1 km from Chiasso and the Swiss-Italian border. Lugano is 20 km away and the Milan Conference Center is reachable within a 35-minute drive.
Now, THAT is a restaurant!
a) The "Conca Bella Restaurant" part is a complete surprising experience, both for your taste and for your eyes.
b) Opt for the (new) "Bistrot Conca" area if you prefer a more informal money-saving meal (in that case just go for "Sedanini Panna & Salsiccia", they are so delicious!)

Seriously, we could smell it after we had cappuccino down the hill, so we followed our noses and found the most amazing ever treats. We bought little rolls filled with chocolate, which were slightly pear in flavor. But they have every baked good and the neighbors all meet there for coffee. YUM!
