Big Red's has a fairly limited menu of traditional pizza options, except perhaps the donair, which I believe is pretty common locally. I write this as someone from the west coast of California, where Blaze and 800 Degrees and other places specializing in Neopolitan Pizza or toppings like arugula or prosciutto abound. Big Red's is not that.
The dough is semi-thick and bready, with a somewhat yeasty taste. It's satisfying in a hearty kind of way. The base sauce is unremarkable. The meat toppings were pretty good, with generous portions. Some of it, especially the donair, was a bit too burnt. The cheese(s) are also unremarkable. All in all, good but not anything more than that. Maybe there are some that are better than others--- I only tried a few.
Service was friendly and efficient, both over the phone and in person.
Big Red's stays open later than average for the area, so there are many reasons to get to know the menu and try a few pies.

This was a delightful (and colorful) place for lunch, very good bakery and fine coffee. Chester is a nice little fishing village not far from Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove (and far less crowded with tourists), with a number of shops along with the scenic harbor. The Kiwi was the perfect spot to pause.

The pizza is large and the toppings are plentiful. The crust was too big and thick for our liking. It was decent and it filled us. However,a little pricey for the area. It's not bad, just not the best pizza I've had. A very busy place,so I am sure it is great for many locals.

This seaside casual restaurant has been here for years and offers a nice range of seafood and burgers made all the more enjoyable by the lovely view. Good food. Nothing fancy. Friendly and efficient service. Reasonable prices. Great place to stop for lunch. Also a bake shop attached if you want to buy a fresh pie or other treats.

Val does lots of things at what was called Shore Video - it is now called Jesmisvals Bulk Food Store. She bakes the most wonderful Savory Bread and if you can get it as it comes out of the oven, it will be gone when you get home! It is delicious! As are her Pineapple Dream Squares and most of everything she makes. Try some if it out! It changes daily. She has lots of bulk foods for you to purchase as well. If you are a reader, they have used books for $1 and the proceeds go to the Children's Wish Foundation. This is also our local Post Office, so you often run into your neighbours while there. A great place to drop in to for just about anything!

We waited forever to get in after being told multiple times that it'll be just 10 minutes more (45 minutes plus in total).
We had 7 people and every single person left hungry- including my preteens who don't really eat that much. Portions were very small for what you got!
We are a sea food living family and come from an area that is land locked - so upon coming to Nova Scotia we made it our Mission to eat allot of sea food from all over the province-- so we had allot to compare it to. Price for food ... I'd say this was amongst the worst-- it wasn't the worst food- but considering how expensive it was, it was awful value!

we drove from White Point Resort in Liverpool NS back to Halifax and stopped in Chester for lunch at the Fo'c'sle because my son had talked about the good food and good times he had enjoyed there during Chester Race Week in August. the restaurant was quiet and we had our choice of tables. we moved away from a table near the door because the bitter cold was an Arctic blast each time the door was opened. our party of 6, 5 adults and one toddler, enjoyed seafood platters, chowder and beer. our toddler had a hot dog and fries. servings were huge and we had no room for dessert. when we used the restroom following lunch, I was surprised to discover another big room beyond our smallish dining area. we were not offered Seating there, and it wasn't mentioned.. all in all, a good hearty lunch at a reasonable price.
