We went to Bonnie Martin Restaurant only because "Odika" (opposite to this restaurant) was closed that noon. This is a very interesting restaurant with a very Caucasian name but offering Chinese cuisine, and cooking Chinese food in a Caucasian style! Very funny. Don't recommend its fish & chips, expensive and not good.

The Haida-Way is a restaurant that is just off the highway near the intersection going downtown Chemainus. It is a family place that serves good old dishes like hot Turkey and veal cutlet meals. Our meals we served in 15-20 minutes. I do not care much for vegetables that came from a (frozen) bag, however, our meals were decent and reasonably priced at $10.95 and $13.95 respectively. It is cheaper than the other restaurants in Chemainus that were opened.

We have been to the Saltair pub on numerous occasions but I think the chef or owners have changed... Quite bland, food not the usual quality and our guests that we had taken were very disappointed in our choice, although the servers were very obliging. We will be giving it a wide berth for quite some time.

We are proud to serve consistent and fresh food prepared daily. Although we do not take Reservations, we have a lot of table space and we are quick and efficient at what we do. We look forward to serving you.

For a change of venue we stopped in here for lunch while driving “down Island”. It was busy (a good sign), the wait staff were friendly and attentive, we were greeted and seated immediately, it was clean, there was a reasonable selection on the menu.
My wife had the lunch special, a Caesar salad with fried chicken pieces on top. She reported that “it was the worst salad she had ever had!” She didn’t finish it. They had a small section called Korean specialties from which I ordered the deep fried pork and pineapple on veggies and rice. It was tasty but certainly nothing Korean about it. Afterwards I asked if there was a Korean cook. No was the answer. My fault for not checking first. Others seemed pleased with their food. Perhaps we didn’t order the right items or we are too particular. It was not what we were looking for and we will not return.

Casual dining
While visiting the Chemainus area, my wife and I were looking for a place to dine before going to a play at the Chemainus Theatre. Based on the positive Tripadvisor reviews, the appealing menu and the location (just around the corner from the Theatre), we went to the Odika Café. We enjoyed the food (we shared the coconut shrimp appy, my wife had the salmon, I had the wild mushroom ravioli), the service was attentive and friendly (we enjoyed talking with the owner) and the prices, while perhaps a bit high for Vancouver Island, were certainly in line with medium priced restaurants in our home town (Vancouver).

They make a very good assortment of breads which I love, and have a bread card as well so after so many - you get a free loaf. Lots of good bakery items as well as a good selection of lunch items.
