Stopped in for dinner. First time we've seen Cabrito on the menu since we've been in Portugal. Since we love baby goat, we all ordered it -- some just grilled and some with the Port sauce (they have it both ways). It was very disappointing. All we got was back bones and rib bones. Very little meat. Lots of fat. Where are the roasts, chops and steaks? What do they do with the real meat? I don't know, but they don't serve it here. For the first time in Portugal I left a restaurant hungry (despite eating the ubiquitous potatoes, rice and veggies that come with the meal) because there was almost no meat in the dish! It was all fat and bones. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing, since we are judging this restaurant on only one dish, but hey, that's all we've got to go on.

We found this restaurant whilst travelling around the national park & were absolutely blown away by the ambience & food quality . We have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants including the Hand & Flowers at Marlow recently & this place easily matches or beats them in all respects .
We started the meal with a selection of tasters & breads which we both thought were lovely . My 1st course was the goats cheese & forest fruit compote in filo pastry , delicious , secondly I had the wild boar which was cooked medium rare & melted in the mouth , it was garnished with 6 clams which I am not a fan of but they were quickly finished off by my wife who is a shellfish lover. My wife had the grouse soup with pastry cover to start & the grilled baby lamb & rice for her main , again both were delicious , especially the lamb . I finished off with crime brûlée which was triple sized & the best I have ever had.
To drink we had a bottle of spring water , a glass of orange for me , the driver & a huge glass of red wine for my wife plus an espresso , total bill 53.60 euros.
Our bill for two starters & two mains plus wine & coffee at the Hand & Flowers was over £155 , the quality at both was just as good .
As a final Pont the toilets were 5 star , they are disguised as a chapel & the blue led from Jesus goes to the male door & the pink one from Mary goes to the ladies , sounds tacky but it's well worth a look.

In the middle of nowhere, in Mizarela, a quiet little Portuguese town, i have to say this is almost an icon of the Portuguese traditional food. Try the "Bacalhau" (codfish) and all the lamb tasty food!
In a beautiful valley, 20 minutes from the capital of the district, Guarda, try it... you will never regret...

Well...eating by 7 euros with a typical portuguese soup (caldo verde), pork cheeks in the oven, wine, dessert and coffee...all made with very good products, fresh and tasty, in a nice place with friendly staff...this just happend in Celorico and has to be Muralhas for sure.
I recommend, it is not a turist place, but it is a place to be visited for turists and portugueses....

If you know the movie rattatouille and if you ever want to experience cooking as an artform, you will have to go there! Every dish was a revelation. I had the deer, the others different styles of salmon. Excellent. If you go to guarda you have to go there. You wont be disappointed. Promise!

This restaurant is part of the service station complex, but not as one would expect. The facilities are first class, as is the food and particularly the staff and management who are always in attendance and go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Without hesitation highly recommended....

Visited this restaurant on our way to Porto. Lovely family run place. Very friendly staff and prompt service. Prat do dia good value and tasty. Plenty of wine with the meal. Good coffee. Busy place, full of locals having their lunch. Would recommend.

Went there in a group of 10 pax. Discovered this place through my parents-in-law who are from the area. Located just off the national road (Guarda-Celorico), access through a narrow side picturesque road next to a small church. The restaurant is an old refurbished farm....MoreThanks for everything! Hope to see you soon. Quinta Santo António do Rio
