Celle (German pronunciation: [ˈtsɛlə]) is a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser and has a population of about 71,000. Celle is the southern gateway to the Lüneburg Heath, has a castle (Schloss Celle) built in the Renaissance and Baroque style and a picturesque old town centre (the Altstadt) with over 400 timber-framed houses, making Celle one of the most remarkable members of the German Timber-Frame Road. From 1378 to 1705, Celle was the official residence of the Lüneburg branch of the dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg (House of Welf) who had been banished from their original ducal seat by its townsfolk.

This restaurant is a pretty nice one. Hans Sobotka as one of the chefs of the Althoff chain ahs "only" one star but his menus are delightful and still down to earth so you get very high quality food but also in portions big enough to satisfy. The menu is changing but some classics (no surprise, duck is one of them) stay and the food is more along the classic german kitchen with some italien additions. The setting is very comfortable and not overly formal, the staff helpful and friendly. It certainly is worth the money.

I have past the Blue Angel many time, never tempted to walk in; at first glimpse, it doesn't look appealing, but the first impression is wrong. It's a very nice, old school, German restaurant with an excellent choice of dishes; more choices than most Celler restaurants. And much more affordable too. But what counts is taste. Taste and gastwirdschaft is King at this restaurant. I will be back for more, I can only endorse you to check out for yourself.

I have eaten here a few times and the food is always good and reasonably priced. The owner/manager plays the parts of the Italian 'mama' which adds to the atmosphere.

A bit on the pricy side but excellent food and a good wine list as well.

Due to the beautiful weather we were able to enjoy dinner in the Biergarten. The traditional German food was excellently prepared and the service was nothing short of amazing. Two ladies with constant smiles and friendly words.
The five star rating is due to the overall experience. This is not Michelin star food. It is honest german food perfectly prepared.
When in Celle or surrounding it is worth to try this restaurant. Oh, and try there special dish at least as a starter. Very nice.

Found this restaurant via Tripadvisor. Bohemian / Czech food. Walls decorated with drawings from the book about the solder Schwejk. While most of the menu consists of rather "heavy" and fatty food, there are also some lighter varieties and salads. Good quality, nicely presented. While most food go well with (Czech) beer, there was also Czech and other wines available. Medium price level, friendly service with a personal touch.

We stumbled upon Martas, looking for somewhere different to eat. What a little Gold Mine. The food service is speedy, the service is fantastic with good English spoken. Food quality is great. Martas rates as one of my 'must eat here' places in Celle which I visit quite frequently.

This was a great place. The service was quick and super-friendly, they had exactly the dishes that an exiled German craves. The Grünkohl came with lots of tender Kasseler and Bauchspeck and also with the special sausages of the region, the Bregenwürste. I just loved it! This is a winter meal and probably the only time in the year I drink a schnapps: the local, ginger-based Ratzeputz is just it!

Not the best delicious rump steak but very hospitable waitress. She said should have rump steak and baked patatoes. Baked patatoes were very good with a rich sour cream topping but steak was mediocre. Nevertheless an open restaurant at 21:00 pm in this sleepy German town in March
