Things to do in Brunswick Heads

During the Christmas holidays I spent some time at Brunswick Heads while travelling with my caravan and had several meals at this wonderful hotel.
Originally built in the 1940’s, it has been enlarged with a few new bits and the original charm and décor has been beautifully restored in recent times.
You enter through a very large beer garden with Poinciana Trees providing lots of shade, there’s two bars, brasserie with indoor or outdoor dining, great coffee, a few pokies and super friendly staff.
The hotel is very spacious with what might be called unpretentious style and it has that uncluttered feeling that not many pubs seem to have these days.
There’s even a curved stairway winding its way upstairs to the tastefully restored accommodation.
The brasserie is called Bruns and has the type of food we have come to expect with quality Aussie pub fare.
Things like steaks, seafood, chicken, bruschetta, burgers, salads and pizzas. Plus the usual chips and wedges.
I found my meals well presented, tasty, looked good on the plate and be warned, you won’t go home hungry as the portions are usually huge.
And even when the staff were busy they were all smiles and your meal didn’t take forever to be ready except one day when the place was packed and there was a bit of a back-up.
If you would like to partake of a refreshment or two in the beer garden while being entertained, live music is usually on Friday and Saturday nights plus Sunday afternoons.
The hotel is located on Mullumbimbi Street, (note the spelling, not Mullumbimby like the nearby town) adjacent to the Brunswick River and just about slap bang in the heart of Brunswick Heads.
If you are travelling in the area I believe it’s definitely worth a look.

Yami serves fresh authentic Middle Eastern food. Located in Brunswick Heads, come and enjoy delicious vegetarian and vegan meals on our outdoor deck by the Brunswick river. Open 7 days. Open evenings during the summer from Wednesday to Saturday.
I have been going here since I was in my early teens (about twenty years), and although it's changed hands since the beginning, the food, drinks, atmosphere, and service are still fantastic and I highly recommend going here for breakfast lunch or dinner!!!

At Sticky Fingers, our passion is pizza. We start with a delicious thin base (gluten-free available), add our authentic homemade tomato base and then top with our original combinations of the very freshest, best-quality, mouth-watering ingredients. You're spoilt for choice at Sticky Fingers. Our winning menu consists of 13 all-time favs or seven delectable Gourmet Pizzas too!
Initial greeting from staff was tepid but other staff member was friendly and competent.
My child said the pizza was “not the best but ok” , while my Rocket Apple Parmesan salad had more dressing than apple and came in a hot bowl.
The setting was relaxed, the drinks were cold, it could be worse.

My friend and I ordered serves of whiting and barramundi plus really nice chips for lunch yesterday (Tuesday).
The chips were great, my friend and I both enjoyed the fish although I would have liked Shark which isn't sold at all - strange..
This shop is quite old and appears to be a 1950's building which hasn't been updated either in décor or menu for sometime.- the menu is quite extensive although nothing stands out.
The fish can be crumbed or grilled - we ordered crumbed fish - we would have preferred battered.
It seems to me that menu is for the ease of staff not for customer choice - I think a menu revamp and freshen up of the premises would be a winner.
It is located across the road from a nice park on the river - an ideal place to enjoy your takeaway meal although we dined in.

Service was awful and the food was worse. The drinks were the bottom of the pit. AND it's not cheap. Please be warned.

This local favourite is now owned by a young man who has worked there for many years, makes great coffee and welcomes locals and visitors alike. It is spacious both inside and outside with covered dining for all weather. Facing the river it has water and sky views and delivers a range of meals to suit any palate. Very popular for breakfast.

Grabbed a gluten free chicken pie for a quick lunch, and while the gf pastry was surprisingly good, I still feel heavy and full from it 2 days later. The salt content in these pies is exorbitant. Some people might be into that, but I personally couldn't eat more than half of my pie, and I was hungry. Cute place but wouldn't eat there again.

On a cool Saturday afternoon visit, we decided to stop for lunch and a coffee. This place I assumed would be average being a cafe style coffee bar but was I wrong. The coffee, absolutely amazing and the hamburger, one I will truly recommend to anyone I know that visits Brunswick. I’ve eaten st about 6 places, some of the most well known I am recommending the express point bar as one of the best burgers I have had. Burger and coffee both get a 9/10, well done.
