Went to Van Gaalen after hearing about about the their cheese cake..
Pitty the service sucked so bad that I had to get up and leave.
Firstly, we were seated.. waited for about 10 minutes for a menu, then eventually after flagging down a waiter, he sent another waitress to bring the menu... she fetch the menu, but then decided to chat to one of her buddies for about another 5 minutes before bringing our menu.
Then eventually when she brought out menu, it was sticky, I asked if she could maybe while down our table as it was still having stains from the ppl before us coffee and crumbs...
After no one coming to take our order or whipping our table, I asked to see the manager...
She seemed very much uninterested in my concern but said she will investigate and then she just went on with serving in the shop...
I told my wife that I believe we have to leave, which we then done.
Sorry Van Gaalen... I was really looking forward to you guys, BUT due to your waiters and managers attitudes, we have to be moving on.

We didn’t book a table, not knowing this is pretty much needed over Sunday lunchtime. We were accommodated and a blanket was offered for our baby to sleep on. Craft beers and good wine list. No salads or light meals unfortunately. All gourmet food but Food needs to be balanced a bit more, the stuffed rolled chicken, and the salmon was a bit disappointing-stir fry only tasted of basting sauce and the salmon was a bit too fishy. Will be back though, best food we’ve had in hartebeespoort!!

The lodge is situated high up the Magaliesberg mountain just below the solid rock face. The downward flowing gorges are softened only by a blanket of shrubs, grasses and trees which have grown over millennia, watered by the purest, cleanest water imaginable and today left to graze on by countless antelope resident on the farm. It is only when you drive in the gate of Leopard Lodge that you realise what has been left behind. The main lodge building houses the reception rooms, restaurant, bar, conference rooms and large verandah with adjoining boma. The lodge has a peaceful atmosphere situated near Hartbeespoort Dam although it is just a short 55km drive from the hustle and bustle of Sandton and 60km from Pretoria. So, pop in for a visit - come and experience our fantastic view of the dam and the valley below - wow! Our restaurant boasts a delightful A la Carte Menu and full bar service is available. We cater for weddings, conferences and functions.
The recent switch to a Sunday A la Carte Lunch Menu is a welcome change. We noticed that more items have been added since we visited last. One for the more adventurous is the lightly seared Salmon with an Eastern Green Thai flavour, delish, a must try. We tried some of the other new menu additions, such as the Roast of the Day, Pork Belly with lots of crackling. Prawns were enjoyed by another two of the party. In all a great day in the sun with spring now sprung. Best part is not having any road noise or a loud band destroying any conversation, just nature at its best with super service and attention.

Restaurant Mosaic at The Orient Private Hotel is this country’s finest destination restaurant and private hotel. Award-winning South African Chef Chantel Dartnall is known for presenting the art of nature on her plates through her botanical cuisine to take you on a culinary tour of pure indulgence. Bask in the sophisticated atmosphere of exotic spaces; an Oriental style oasis set in lush and tranquil 280h of the Francolin Conservancy. The Mosaic cellar is unparalleled in this country with some of the most exceptional and rare wines from both South Africa and internationally.
This restaurant has the best food we have ever eaten - an adventurous culinary journey. The best of all however is, that chef Chantal greets every guest personally in the beginning and end of the meal, which is so special. Even though Chantel is world renowned the humility with which she comes across is refreshing and humbling. The attention to detail in Mosaic and The Orient is something to behold. What an experience we had! Thank you so
much for having us! We will be back!

De Vette Mossel (The Fat Mussel) offers much more than perfectly prepared seafood – this is an experience – in unusual and informal surroundings with traditional Cape fishing culture – in true West Coast Style.
We wanted to go eat there. Called and made a booking, was told to make an EFT payment, waited for the banking details which was never received. At 17:00 we made other plans, shortly afterwards i got a phone call asking if we had paid. Maybe next time we will try make a booking again.

It was quite surprising to see a restaurant with only a few customers on a Saturday evening. The Tapas( Chicken Livers, Calamari, and Mussel pot) was good- rich(butter and cream) and fulling. One would need to appreciate the uniqueness of each cuisine and not make comparisons. The Tapas was not badly priced what so ever.

We are bringing Craft Beer awesomeness to Harties Dam!! Craft Beer Brewery and Restaurant in a tranquil setting under the trees. We are situated on the R104, past the Dam Wall next to Water Affairs. 8 Craft Beers on tap, Bottles in stock, Pub style menu. Pet friendle and child friendly with playground.
Had a family lunch on a Saturday afternoon while driving near Hartbeespoort dam. The Chameleon Brewhouse is conveniently located near the dam wall. A brewery where you can get food. Nice touch was a singer keeping us entertained while the food took forever. Beer is made on site, we had some of their lager, was good, cider was poor not recommended. Food took way too long to be delivered but we were saved by the great waiter. Always had a big smile and did his best to make our experience a good one. Overall cost of food is about R162 per person, they serve burgers and pizza. May be a good stop during the breakfast run? Not sure I will rush back.

We shared the Bavarian platter. Everything was great. The pork belly beyond great. Off our beaten track so not able to visit often, but I would like to try the rest of the menu. Definitely worth a visit if you heading from Johannesburg to Brits
