Welcoming guests from all over the world at our chalet in the middle of the heart of the old town in Brig gives us great joy everyday. Great traditional food and drinks at a fair without frills has been our guiding principals at Steakhouse Eidgenossen for almost 30 years. Besides our beloved steaks from the charcoal grill, the Eidgenossen menu offers a fine selection of the Swiss cusisine. To complement enjoy delicious wines from the regional vineyards. It would be our pleasure to welcome you at Steakhouse Eidgenossen. Family Claudia & Peter Witschi-Biaggi
We visited this restaurant based on reviews on Trip Advisor. We're not sure why everyone rated this so well but we found it to be very ordinary or we ordered the wrong food. We all travel, eat out regularly and don't normally complain but we do wonder where everyone was coming from in recommending this restaurant.
It sounds from the reviews the steaks are great and one of our group ordered veal schnitzel which was tasty and looked good but that's where it ended for us.
One of our group also ordered the veal schnitzel but the waiter who took the order thought they ordered veal sausage and argued with them that this is what they ordered and proceeded to return with the menu to point this out! Rather than create a scene our friend accepted the dish. This turned out to be a very large sausage laid across a dinner plate of hot chips. My veal escalopes (over cooked and very dry) were served with a mushroom sauce and chips. It was a very plain, uninspiring meal for both of us. We did get a small bowl of lettuce, tomato and carrot on the side too.
Perhaps we needed to think of the restaurant as a pub first and food second. Either way it was not what we were expecting based on Trip Advisor reviews.
We wouldn't recommend this restaurant to friends.

Nothing bad could be said about the food here - it was great. However one of the waitresses was very rude to us as she had a group booking and although there was space for us, did not seem to want to accommodate us. Another, very charming waitress found us a table and served us. By the time we left round about 9 pm, the group still had not arrived!

"Simple but quality food, very friendly, multilingual personnel".
Warm welcome from staff combined with value food (simple but hearty dishes) make us come back over and again. Try the cakes in the afternoon ... you won't be disappointed ! Ganterwald stands out vs the other restaurants located on the Simplon pass itself !

We skulked around comparing prices and ended up at Matza. There really are no inexpensive options, this was just "less so". It was inviting, there were others inside enjoying themselves, and the food smelled and looked great. Jim ordered a pizza and I had a shnitzel dish, each of us ordered a beer. The bill was 55.9 Swiss francs. What was lovely was the apertif of fruit juice, cake with whipped cream AND two shots (with the bottle left at our table to invite more) of Lemoncello served "gratis". These touches would have me rate Matza "GOOD" if good were a possible TripAdvisor rating... it is not. The service was EXCELLENT until, unfortunately, it came for the check. We made 3 attempts (twice having her indicate she knew we were waiting for it) to have our waitress bring it, finally going to the bar and asking what seemed to be the MANAGER for it, wherein our server brought it to the table and handled the aspect of taking our cash. What is with that_ I /we were tired and it put a slight damper on having chosen Matza and on having spent that much money. We were too reserved about drinking the entire bottle of Lemoncella ... that, at least, would have maybe taken the edge off the long wait for our check.

We were waiting on the car-train and just wanted lunch... and OK, so its in a hotel, and is non-descript. The creativity and fresh local fare is wonderfully unexpected in this village! Enjoyed the creative salads and the smoked chicken dish! Artful, from napkin rings and water glasses to presentation. Unexpected awesomeness...

We, family of 3 patronised this restaurant yesterday on recommendation of my brother who ate here a year ago during vacation. We have been to Thailand many times. This restaurant serves very delicious, authentic Thai dishes. We ordered crispy duck (recommended by Thai lady owner), pork fried with basil leaves, prawn tomyam gung, venison in green curry and minced pork omelette (on request, not in menu). All very yummy and spicy oomph. Level of spiciness on request. Can request dishes not in menu. Their Thai ingredients, including vegetables comes from Thailand every Monday. Lady owner teaches Thai cooking every Tuesday. The restaurant have 3 Thai chefs. Close on Mondays.

Stopped as a party of five while going back home.
Classy dining room with a great view.
Food was very good..
Started with an excellent salad.
The steak tartare was also very good.
Lovely desserts.
A great place which does justice to Swiss hospitality.
Owners and chef shook our hands and thanked us for coming.
A sign of respect for customers which is rarely seen today.
A good stop if going via the Simplon.

Histrian the restaurant in the middle of the Old Town of Brig connected with the famous Stockalperpalast 2 Kitchen Concepts Schlosspinta - güöti Choscht ver Lit va here The cellar of the castle restaurant to Schlosspinta. "Güöti Choscht ver Lit va here!" is the motto of the new Schlosspinta. Kitchen with claim For something special, the Grünwald room is reserved. Here gourmets will get their money. For banquets, weddings and festivities with a claim to exclusivity, the rooms are on the first floor available.
This is a lovely restaurant in an ancient building - super Terrace and friendly, helpful staff.
This is supposedly the best restaurant in Brig, but I found the food quite unmemorable, nothing wrong with it, but nothing to rave about.
Talk about raving, the prices were crazy and our 2 course meal and a couple of drinks came to 150 Swiss francs - so our overnight stop in Brig cost me 190 francs for the hotel + 150 francs for dinner = 340 francs - no we won't be back !
