The Settlement Center Restaurant

In our restaurant we invite you to a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and good quality food at reasonable prices. The Settlement Center is located in one of Borgarnes oldest houses. Yet the restaurant is modern and newly refurbished with due respect to old times. The menu is a blend of traditional Icelandic cooking with international flavors to it. The Restaurant is open daily from 10am - 9pm

The day we visited the Settlement Center was cold and rainy. Perfect for a hot bowl of soup and that's exactly what my wife and I enjoyed at the restaurant upstairs. She had a wonderful bowl of fish soup in an interesting tomato based sauce....MoreThank you so much for this very generous review. So glad you found shelter from the stormy weather it has been unusually bad this last week. Hope you enjoyed Iceland despite of the cold and wind. Best regards Sigridur Margret

RESTAURANT AND BARIn our restaurant we serve home made and fresh products. Every day we offer a home made dish based on our own recipes. The soup of the day is very popular such as the meat and fish balls. For all those in need for speed we offer a big variety of hamburgers, pizzas and french fries. An icelandic hot dog or “pylsa” is something you should not miss during your stay in Iceland.

As there isn't much else in the area we chose this place for lunch. It's a b&b, restaurant and mini supermarket. Friendly staff. They serve fast food: pizza, burgers, rösti, hotdogs.... Quality is good. Don't expect gourmet, but we were happy to support a local business!

TLDR: Excellent soups and hard-to-beat price. Talkative and knowledgeable owner. Nice patio to enjoy if weather permits.
This place is kind of off the beaten path and doesn't look very appealing from the road. We were tempted with the good reviews (and lack of anything else in the area) but actually hesitated to go in, since it was empty and seemed unattended.
Just while we were contemplating, the owner came out of the back of the building and greeted us with a big smile, making us feel more comfortable to go in.
The inside is pretty basic, not unlike many other road-side restaurants across Iceland. The special was the soup, where you pay a fixed price to get unlimited refills of three different types of soup, unlimited bread, and tea/coffee/water for drinks. Every single soup was delicious, but our favorite was the vegetable soup.
All produce are directly from the owner's farm and you can tell from the freshness of the flavors. Definitely a must if you are hungry and in this area.

We were celebrating our 26th anniversary and my parents, who were travelling with us in Iceland, were celebrating their 59th anniversary so we decided to splurge, since we were staying at the Hotel Hamar, and enjoy a three course dinner int he hotel dining room. The entrees and appetizers and desserts were all excellent. Three of us had chicken, one had the fish...all moist and not over cooked. My spouse even had the foal appetizer, which I tried and must say, it was tender and delicious! Ask for a table next to a window and enjoy your dinner with a fantastic view of the golf course and snow capped Mountains in the distance. Dinner for four, including wine, and dessert and tip, came to approx. $550 Canadian.

This doesn't look very impressive from outside, but when we ventured in for an evening meal after a long day of driving, we were pleasantly surprised. It was cosy and cheerful, with spectacular views from its windows. Reasonably priced (for Iceland) casual meals, I enjoyed my burger, and we found it a good option as we were staying just out of Borganes.

Stopped here for lunch and had some amazing soup. The lamb soup was filled with generous amounts of lamb in a well seasoned stew. The seafood soup was filled with mussels, small shrimp and fish in a creamy tomato broth. Both were generous portions and totally delicious! And it was in a beautiful seaside setting.
