Being a regular visitor to Benalla we had dined here a few years ago and thought it was worth another visit. The decor is not quite upmarket restaurant and the place was quiet for a Thursday night.
The menu was not extensive and was limited in its choices, the entree of arancini balls and gnocchi was very nice however our mains both lamb was a bit hit and miss in that both were not quite cooked to medium rare but was tender and tasty.
The wine list was also small and concentrated on local produce. The service was good and meals arrived at the table in good time.
It’s good but this place is not cheap and is the type of restaurant you would visit on special occasions, for the prices asked you would expect better and it just misses the mark. Would I visit again, maybe but I would not rush back, there was not a lot on the menu that screamed come back and try me and for the prices I expected a lot better.

Located in the Benalla Regional Art Gallery on the banks of the broken river, sit back on our spacious deck or dine inside our humble cafe and enjoy beautiful food produced by our talented local chefs using local regional produce. Explore the Art gallery whilst enjoying breakfast, lunch, coffee, local wines or sweet treats.
We had lunch after viewing the latest exhibition and Benalla Gallery. Staff friendly. Sat outside overlooking lovely river. Menu offered the all day breakast as well as stark sandwiches, chicken burger, salt and pepper calamari with salad and chips in addition to daily specials. Local wines available alongside tea, coffees and soft drinks. Cakes displayed. The calamari was reportedly good and the burger was OK - the chips were fresh and tasty.

The food was of excellent quality and well cooked. I had the duck and mushroom risotto which was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is elegant and there is a bar lounge area where you can enjoy a cocktail before you sit for dinner. Service was fast and helpful when we requested Gluten-free options.

Hollywoods menu has great variety. Yummy potato pizza, generous ribs and burgers with excellent chips, pasta marinara. All tried. Followed by take home tubs of gelato/ icecream chosen from regularly changing house-made display.Enjoyed a late afternoon coffee and chat with a friend when all other cafes had closed. Have yet to try their intriguing breakfast smoothies and muesli creations. Janet L-C

Excellent once again. Too late for lunch so we shared a corned beef and pickle melt - and boy was it good! Not spoiled with cheese, Turlish roll was just superb - up there with a good Ruben. Would be five stars if it was a bit cheaper ($14.50).

Motel owner recommended Gold club for dinner and we were delighted. Being vegetarian there were a couple of main course options but I chose a plate of veggies and mushroom sauce. This was so much more than frozen veggies. About 8 varieties on a plate for $5.00. Could not have chosen better. Partners meal of Barramundi salad and chips equally as good. Great service, bread roll and butter included and quick service as we arrived at opening time of 6 pm.

Don't miss this! Tucked away next to it's partner business Charcoal Chicken this place is a wonderful find. Service is great and the fresh vegetables and steak are all sourced locally. Best value for money meals in Benalla. Make a booking if you are a large group.

Dropped in on the way to Melbourne to purchase some bread, coffee scrolls and some cakes. All looked good but that is where it ended. Bread and rolls were so so and the carrot cake - at $7.00 per slice! - was rubbish.
Must have a captive audience in Benalla.
