Located in the heart of stresa, lake maggiore, restaurant lo stornello has been completely refurbished in february 2013 by new management. Young chef, with many years experience in prestigious hotels and restaurants, proposes traditional Italian cuisine, emphasising local specialties and products.elegant refined casual ambience, summer dehors in a cosy atmosphere.
Chose this restaurant after Reading the TA reviews. We were not disappointed. Dinner was excellent, staff was very nice to us, and price was reasonable for the quality. My wife had the steak which was well seasoned and delicious. I went for the cream of celery soup and the pheasant ---- both were awesome !!!!! Will definitely come back on the next trip to Stressa.

Went as couples tonight. The food was creative, tasty and well presented. However, when we asked about side dishes; as there were none on the menu, we were told our mains came with vegetables. They did and they were good, but they were so minimal. We needed more to complete the meal. Desert of panacotta was also small and not up to par.

We were 6 friends that decided to go to this restaurend as ather friends recomended on it and we had a very nice evening and lovely dinner.
I ordered the potato and zookini soup which was very good and the the duck in orange sauce which was lovely.
The Deserts were also very good.
The young waitress, i don't know her name, was very funny and had a great sense of humor.

You should visit this place while it's still in business because the service is so unutterably bad it doesn't deserve to survive.
I've awarded it one star because the pizza is actually very good, freshly cooked and delicious.
Unfortunately you have to endure the service. Well, service is too broad a term for what passes as complete apathy on behalf of the waiting staff.
The poor chef is working himself to death while the front of house team are doing him no favours at all.
Customers are left waiting for tables outside while there is space in the restaurant. Get your table and the staff are more interested in moving empty glasses around than taking orders.
Menus are just left on tables with no eye contact or engagement from the staff.
Orders are slow to be taken and when you want to pay just get up, go to the desk at the rear of the restaurant and have a debate about what you ordered.
One member of staff spent most of the mid evening sitting down texting on her phone while orders went un taken and customers queued.
This is the sort of place you visit once then avoid. I'm sorry but it really does not deserve to be in business. It should be a gold mine. Lots of customer traffic, a good location, a good pizza cook and potentially a good dining room.
Instead it should shut its doors. None of the staff seem to care so why should the customers?
Go elsewhere.

The hotel offered a fixed-price menu. If you didn't want all courses, you could pick and choose but the four courses would cost considerably more outside and the family are so lovely and helpful.

A little inn, a little restaurant, a little shop and a little delicatessen, this is the way we like to be! We like to rediscover the traditional dishes and present them to you in an informal setting, we like to experiment and discover, never to be banal. A cosy atmosphere and a breathtaking view, surrounded by nature with a view directly on The Borrome Islands. A casual sparkling atmosphere pervaded by the smell of home-made products.
Very bad experience.
As we were attracted by the view, we booked a table for diner on the terrasse. When we arrived: many people were already waiting. The owner told us "to wait 5mn as they were preparing the table for us". 25 mn later, he instead suggested to take a table in a blind dîner room or to wait more time (reminder: we booked a table 3 days before and called one more time the same day to confirm again). Finally, he mentioned the service is unfortunately long.
Summary:
- Risky car park (the parking was very dangerous and too small. Outside, this is the road, even more dangerous),
- no view but being suggested to accept a table inside, even if you booked on the terrasse,
- the service takes time,
We decided to go in a better place.

Nice terras in the garden. Plates are prepared carefully (like the pictures posted by other travelers). My dish was nice although not spectecular; fried fish with tempura. My husband's dish was very nice: fresh, pure and good ingredients. Service is good, price quality is good. The only thing that we recommend to change is the continuous smell and smoke of the citronella candle burning next to our table (we understand that the mosquitoes should be kept away, but for us this smell and smoke was a reason for just ordering the house wine rather than ordering a nice bottle of wine).

Family Run Restaurant With Local Products And Traditional Regional Recipes. No Grilled Sea Fish Or Classic Italian Like Lasagna O Spaghetti A La Bolognaise.
Managed to get in this restaurant after finding two others which were recommended to us fully booked or rather unable to handle a group of 6 people. This was also an excellent place to dine, traditional furnishings, very interesting food, lots of locals eating. Grilled zucchini starters with goat cheese mousse was delicious. My husband's veal bollita? main course was very goodand my lamb shank was beautifully slow cooked, tender and tasty, one of the best I have eaten. We were more or less the last to leave at 10.30pm but the waiters did not make us feel uncomfortable, always the sign of a good place.

Traditional Italian cuisine , pasta , lake fish , sea fish , meat and wonderful desserts . The inside restaurant is very comfortable and new and the dehors is very quite and wonderful to relax during lunch or dinner
This fine dining restaurant is related to the nearby Hotel Carilllon which is definitely a place you'll want to stay.
The food is exceptional and well presented.. Their terrific antipasto is almost a full meal. Their entrees are well portioned. tasty, and worth the prices. It is not inexpensive, so check prices if that could be an issue.
I urge you to eat at the Serenella!
Late submission due to extended overseas travel April-July.

The Restaurant of the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees - Elegant - Gluten free - Reservations welcome.
We are just about to check out of this grand hotel after an enjoyable 4 night stay. The hotel is superb in every way from the courteous attentive staff, magnificent grounds and Gardens and of course the palatial building itself. In all it is one of the best hotels we have stayed in and have no hesitation in recommending it to intending guests.
