Our small group tour was en-route from Krakow to Budapest with a scheduled stop in Banksa Bystrica for lunch.
It was Good Friday. We walked up to the square from the bus parking area to find it deserted. A beautiful square by the way but as little eerie without people.
Nothing of note appeared open, then we spied Leroy Bar & Cafe and were thankful that we did.
Cosy atmosphere (it was a cold day), friendly staff and prompt service. English language was a bit of a problem but the lovely wait-staff were patient with us.
Lunch was a simple affair - a couple of glasses of wine and a cheese plate between the two of us but we had a most enjoyable hour or so here.

Were there for New Years Eve, when in BB was not happening that much. Good food (not bad, but I have eaten better in Slovakia), good staff - as somebody said before, the girls were laughing and joking with each other, but they did their job good and exchanged some word in Italian at the end of the meal:)

I was in that restaurant during a business trip, i can say that the price and quality are good enough, even if not the best. I took a steak that was good even if some parts were too tough. The staff is kind (maybe too much, if you know what i mean) and the atmosphere is nice, with a lot of wine bottles that allows you to think that you ended up in the right place to have a good red wine.
The waiter suggested to me a bottle of Italian wine "Nero d'Avola" that i usually drink in Italy but this was form a cellar that i never heard. It was an awful experience, the day after i had a big headache which usually happens when the quality of wine is bad and they put a lot of sulphites.
My suggestion is that they must check better their suppliers.

Very pleasantly surprised, honestly did not expect that level of service and food quality in the middle of the Forests. The location is a bit away of the city happenings, but the surroundings, fresh air and pleasant atmosphere pays off. The food is high level, very delicios, I would not make a better picant tripe soup myself, just made to my taste!!! Excellent second dish, among others slow roast pork neck with sour cabbage dumplings (yes, yummy, despite of the awkward desription), simply unforgettable well- and diferently prepared salmon fillet, not to forget the duck leg with cabbage. And last but not least, by ordering espresso coffee you get it as it should be - a ristretto with additional boiling water aside to make it to your taste of espresso or americano. Hey, coffee guys in posh restaurants, you have a chance to learn something. It is a definitelly well managed place. Will love to come again.

Local bistro offering fresh delicious meals, desserts and coffee. We use local vegetables and meat to offer you the best gastronomy experience. After a meal, try one of our wide range of homemade pattiserie. Polite staff is waiting for you :)
I have been to Pigis for several times already. What was always great was the staff - polite, quick, pleasant. I have never been dissapointed witth the coffee or desserts, so I can reccomend that. As for lunch or dinner - note that the offer is limited and somewhat non-original: burgers, fish and chips, usual bistro food. I did not find any "signature dish" , maybe I just was not looking right. The food we had was OK, thay mention often that the use local and "real" ingredience, that all may be true. But for the price of food, which is quite high for this town, the result is somewhat dissapointing. You could easily have similar taste (maybe not the ingrediens quality) in some better fast food stall. Having been though many of new fashionable "bistros" in Bratislava and elsewhere, I would say food here could use some more originality to justify the prices.

I don't usually write reviews, but Smartfood deserves it.
A new concept of brunch/lunch bistro, opened on workdays only, 1100-1500, with stylish open-spaced kitchen, brand new menu each day, consisting of soup, veggie and meat/fish main course concluding with a dessert.
Not a state-of-art cuisine with miniscule portions, simply fresh and delicious combinations, certainly made with professionalism, as well as with warm "homemade" pinch.
Lastly, unimaginable prices, I payed ca. 14 euro for whole menu and a drink.
Be smart and try it and you'll certainly get curious, what is the chef up to, the following day :)

Have been eating in a lot of places in Banska, but this restaurant was outstanding. Firstly, service was perfect, waiter wore white gloves to change your tableware. Secondly, the food. You can't say a bad word about dishes, spotless, tasteful, well prestented. I will definitely come back here in the future!

We´ve enjoyed sitting at the historical square of Banska Bystrica sitting in the restaurant Cerveny rak. It seems that everything from the menu is veery tasty. We had tartar beef and chicken leg on mushrooms. Both were delicious. Just we advice not to take fatty breads for tartar beef. The bread was too oily. The restaurant is producing it´s own beer. The beer is very good. Staff is nice but not very professional. It´s a common problem in restaurants of Slovakia.

Bystricka Klubovna is a third beer pub from the Slovak chain and is located in the historical building of Barbakan. Good beer, great food and an amazing atmosphere cannot be missing in Bystricka Klubovna. Imagine grilled delicacies like smoked sausages, grilled fish, ribs and steaks or traditional dishes like schnitzel, baked marrow bones, pork cheeks stew with paprika and many others.
Whilst staying overnight in Banska Bystrica we came here for dinner as told it was great. We sat outside with 8 others in our group and all ordered different meals. Big expectations for dinner but sadly the pork ribs I ordered were nothing special and very small. Not good value. Sat outside and thankful for the blankets supplied as the breeze was quite cool in June.

We are one of the longest operating pizzeria in Banska Bystrica. In addition to a wide range of pizzas, we also prepare soups, meaty and vegetarian dishes, pasta, fresh salads and desserts. Recently, we include in the offer seasonal dishes of vegetables, fruit and herbs grown in your own garden. In our non-smoking rooms can simultaneously serve up to 90 guests. We can prepare small family celebrations, graduations etc. In this way, we cordially invite you to Pizzeria EVIJO the National Street.
As a Slovakian native living abroad I'm always pleased to visit this restaurant and get a best pizza which taste as good as it tasted when I was a child. +reasonable prices +nice staff +very clean place +delicious food
