Went for an evening meal during Ramadan, just at the end of fasting. Place was rammed and we waited 30min for a table: it's quite a small place. Ordered BBQ grilled chicken and chicken teriyaki. Both came with a small portion of chips and were excellent.
Shortly after the shutters came down and the lights went off. No chance of a coffee then? They couldn't wait to shut the place.

Never any single pizza restaurant in Banda Aceh before the tsunami. That massive disaster made people work together, build back better, and stop the long history of local conflict that made no economic growth in Aceh. After tsunami, Aceh is now open to international world. If you crave for pizza in Banda Aceh, this is one of the best choice you can have. There are also upscale cafe and Italian restaurant, but Pizza Hut is more affordable while the place/interior is so much more sophisticated compare to the Pizza Hut in the United States.

Thoroughly enjoyed the meal here. The place was busy, but we were still ordering quickly , having been waited on quickly too. The drinks were beautiful, as was the entree. I ordered guacamole and chicken pizza. They were both lovely, and plentiufl. Absolutley deligfhtful flavour, well priced and definitely worth going back to. Way to go La Piazza. You;ll have me back again.

Great fish, right next to the ferry terminal. Bring a phrase book or translation program on your cellphone, because the choices are endless and no English in sight.
Use hand gestures to pick out a fish; they weigh it; you tell them how you want it done (somehow); pick out your drinks. Then you find yourself a table in the giant shed.
The fish eventually materializes and tastes fresh and fantastic.
Full dinner cost around $10 a person.
Separate party rooms available. Caution: mens room has place for washing up prior to daily prayers; regular facilities further down a hall.

The setting is superb, the pine trees and cliff make it feel more like France or Portugal, highly recommended for a few days.
The rooms are nice for budget accommodation, though I had a lot of big cockroaches scurrying about whenever I picked up clothes, bags etc.
The restaurant is so so, huge potential here guys, add some cushions, make it a little more chill friendly so people want to hang out instead of making people want to go lie on their bed.. this could be an amazing hang out, just needs more love! Pizza is ok.
Staff friendly enough, I did a surf lesson with Moo, was a lot of fun.
Rooms worked out at 100k, surf lesson was 500k for 2 hours.

I visited this resto when it was very crowded: some organization booked the whole indoor resto. Maybe that's also why the food came late to our table. I ordered cheesy banana canai and it was okay. My friends ordered chicken canai and they loved it. I loved the Teh Tarik so much. Price was average, not too expensive.

The food is really tasty. I go here for my birthday. The only downside is that it lacks stability. Every time we go they are out of something. Like last time they didn't have any crab, so couldn't make crab soup.
The shrimp fried rice is really good.

Solong Coffee

This place was recommended by our driver and we hopped into this shop to try.
After going around because the location on Google Maps was off by 500m, we asked around and was shown to the correct area.
The coffee is nice, and like all local coffee, if you ordered milk coffee, it all served with condensed milk.
What I like most in this shop is sadly not the coffee, but the bread with srikaya! The bread was sooooooooooo soft and the srikaya is rich orangy color (don't go for the srikaya in the bowl - it smells too egg-ish).
Aceh people are fond of sweet stuff, so the srikaya is a tad too sweet for my taste and I ordered milk coffee (go figure!) --- DIABETIC ALERT
But if you order black coffee, the roti with srikaya will be a prefect combination.
Enjoy!
PS: They also sell their coffee in package. Go for the transparent packaging for cheaper price.

Ayam Bakar Wong Solo

Reviewed By ALR0609 - Kuantan, Malaysia

Ayam bakar wong solo is a chain of restaurants found all over Indonesia, and there are also chains in neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore.
The entrepreneur who started this business is Puspo Wardoyo who was initially from Solo, Jawa Tengah (hence the name 'solo'). He then moved to Medan to start his chicken restaurant business, which did very well leading to the franchise today.
Ayam bakar is barbecued/grilled chicken served with white rice, sambal (ground chillies) and garnished with a slice of cucumber, a slice of egg plant and a piece of tahu (tofu). The secret is in the way the chicken is prepared - the chicken is tender and tasty. The sambal is so-so, but because the chicken is already tasty, who cares about the sambal?
If you do not want the barbecue chicken, you have a choice of fried chicken or ayam penyet. Or if you dont like chicken (then why go to wong solo in the first place?), you can have pecel lele (fried catfish) instead.
If the chicken isnt enough, you can add on other dishes. I would suggest the sambal tempe with ikan bilis. Very hot but yummy!
For drinks, there are the usual range of fruit juices and teas. I tried jus poligami - a fruit punch of mango, papaya and orange. You can tell the name is a bit tongue in cheek as the owner, puspo wardoyo is famed for having several wives!
A must try if you are in Indonesia.
