We were new to Acqui Terme and we asked our hotel and a salesperson in a clothing store where we should have lunch. Without hesitation, they said i Caffi. What an extraordinary stroke of good luck to have lunch and the following day to have dinner in one of the best restaurants we've enjoyed in Italy. Let me walk you through our experience. Firstly, their welcome is open and smiling and that sets the stage for the meals. Secondly, the cuisine is simple, inventive, and creative. The chef sources primarily from the region. Our vegetables were fresh. The meat and poultry were full of flavour, not run-of-the-mill industrial products we've often had to tolerate. Try their quail breast salad, their flan de courgette or the poulpe ravioli. Somewhat sceptical because we had never tried it before, we had Piemont lamb and beef. As a New Zealander I believe our lamb is the gold standard for the lamb industry. That was before we had their grilled lamb chops. Superb, they were every bit as good as...maybe a bit better...than the NZ lamb we get in France. The rump steak was done to perfection. I asked for it to be grilled 'a point legerment rose' and it cut like a dream. A rump steak that is chewable? Yes, it was outstanding. We drank open wines: a colossal Barbera d'Asti 2015 and a sparkling Pinot from the same vineyard. Both were superb. Dessert? Try the fresh strawberries with rose ice cream. Sublime and a lovely way to finish our meals. A final note about the owners: Sara and Pierrot. They have to be two of the nicest people we have met in years. Language was not a problem. They were patient, they were proud of their kitchen and servers, they reached out to us and created two magical meals. Sara's mom is in the kitchen. There is a lot of love in i Caffi. In the fall when the white mushroom season begins we will call ahead and ask for a table. Life is too short not to keep going back. We are grateful for the experience of having two very fine meals. This restaurant also has rooms and I stayed for two nights in a very simple, clean comfortable room, above all very quiet and peaceful. We had lunch sitting outside under the old walls and the food and service were excellent. I had a pasta dished followed by fresh tuna. The next day we had dinner and were very hungry as we had played golf and been to the spa. We ate inside and for an antipasto I chose squid which was delicious, followed by a pasta al forno dish, then stinco, which is a meat dish that has been cooked slowly for a long time and the meat melts in your mouth. Very reasonable for the quality of food, the surroundings and service.

Our first time at the restaurant and we treated as though we were regulars. The food was excellent and they have a great wine selection. We would definitely eat here again.

This restaurant has received some good notices because it does a range of vegetarian dishes which is quite rare in this part of Italy but we also found that the selection of non-vegetarian dishes was pretty good. Everything looked to be freshly prepared and there was a real family-run feeling to the place - in fact we felt that one of the other tables must have been occupied by family or local regulars as the staff seemed so familiar with them - but that didn't stop them being attentive to us. We had a table in the window so we could watch the world go by - it was a drizzly evening - and we found the atmosphere very unhurried and relaxing. The food was also very good - although we had to ask for the English version of the menu as some of the Italian words were unfamiliar - stinco fortunately turned out to be shin - and the pasta dishes were particularly flavoursome. My partner also had a desert which was huge and very rich and creamy. With a bottle of wine the whole meal came to just over Eur40, so good value.

You would never stumble across this restaurant as it is buried in the hills above Acqui, but it's worth tracking it down. Family run restaurant, with passion. Pizza's are so light and fresh you can nearly eat two! There's a challenge :-)

In the city pedestrian precinct a stone’s throw from “Piazza Italia”, Acqui’s main square, and from the famous Fountain “la Bollente” (meaning the boiling) you will find our old trattoria. Our small restaurant is deeply rooted in Piedmontese tradition. In fact we offer our guests a three-generation-old characteristic plain cooking, based on old unchanged recipes. Also our Farinata is made according to the old recipe of grandfather Ferruccio and cooked in a typical wood-burning oven. Our dishes are served with selected kinds of typical wine, which compliment our gastronomy in the best way. Trattoria Mazzini is surely the right place where you can taste and savour Acqui traditional cooking.
We came here for lunch to eat farinata .. the place was full, but the lovely staff told us they would reserve a table for us and told us to come back in 15 mins. When we came back, a table was ready and it was worth it.
We both had the farinata .. if you are feeling hungry you can get the larger serving .. you can also get it with gorgonzola, and they are not shy on the portions.
My husband also got the funghi crepelle which was delicious and the tris .. trippa and two types of stoccafisso. He recommend the trippa, and mopped his plate clean with the bread.
The desserts looked delicious, but unfortunately we were full ..
The staff and locals were all friendly .. I would recommend this place, even if you have to wait.

Cosy restaurant in the old city centre with bricks vaults - Air conditioning and Piedmontese Menu.
Based on recommendation we went to this restaurant and were not disappointed.
We had gnocchi as appetizer and rabbit as main. Both were wonderfully cooked and seasoned. The wine recommendation was excellent. The owner is very knowledgeable and you feel the passion in his cooking. As improvement I just say one word "smile".
If you are hungry for a traditional meal, then come back for more.....we surely will do and maybe we will get a smile then.

A quick overnight stop in Acqui and saw the listing on TripAdvisor as well as walking past during the day. Receptionist at our hotel kindly reserved a table for us.
Located in a beautiful old building near the duomo....we were not sure how it would go as our arrival was met by the chef who seemed to take no prisoners... however our concerns were unfounded and we were well looked after by one of the happiest and content seeming waiters we ever met.
We were treated to two courses of what seemed simple dishes cooked with skill and to perfection. Spaghetti with just a couple of ingredients was wonderful and the piemontese ravioli was sublime. My partner had steak which she said was the best she'd ever had and I had a lovely veal Milanese.
A lovely bottle of wine and some sweets to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable meal. If ever in Acqui, stop by...you will not be disappointed.

Built as restaurant for the associates of the local wine manufacturer this restaurant has a classic degustation menu to offer together with a selection of local wines and an à la carte choice of dishes that are out of the ordinary.
Try the grilled tuna ( yes even in Piemonte!) or the Sirloin tagliata. Very well seasoned, very refined but strong taste all the same with some wonderful Cavi wine (cortese grapes) or the Barbera d'Asti 2014 (Crocera) made this a special event.
Classic interior and great view on the hill are standard, the cantina in the cave = extra: u can buy the wines on site...
