Arrived at ZJJ's Hehua Airport early morning to go to Wulingyuan (our hotel is in wulingyuan). Do check with your hotel if they provide airport transfer services. It should cost around 200Yuan to go straight to Wulingyuan (and i suggest you take a cab).
so we arrived in airport, exited, lots of private taxi and 1 shuttle bus. the shuttle bus seems to go to ZJJ city. we pay 220Yuan for the taxi to wulingyuan. it is about 45 mins drive.
Next day, we went to ZJJ national park. ticket price is 250Yuan/pax for 4 day entry. It is not transferable, they will tag your finger print to the card when you enter.
Recommend to stay in Wulingyuan town to access the ZJJ national park as you are able to walk into the national park - 15 mins walk.
Don't expect much from the town. there is no nightlife or what. even finding food can be difficult (i speak mandarin myself) if you are already bored with chinese food. no pizza, there are bakeries around.
In the town there is a bus station which serves buses to phoenix town, Changsha, zjj etc...

Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park is the second national forest park in Zhangjiajie, where the famous Tianmen Mountain is located.
Taking the long and high cable car up to the top of the mountain, walking on the glass "cliff-hanging" path, riding the crazily fast shuttle on the 99 hair-pin turns road downhill, and the taking the longest escalators made this an amazingly memorable trip up on Tianmen Mountain. It was exciting, beautiful, and eye-opening fun-filled day.

Scenic and exciting! This is a very popular site and could be very crowded. You will forever remember your trip here. Walk around the different areas and appreciate both the natural beauty and human-engineering that made this place accessible to travelers.

Impressive landscape that has inspired the one of the movie Avatar. It is an unique group of Mountains that you can't see elsewhere. Watch out the time to travel here to avoid the high season for Chinese Tourists where the queues can reach over 2h for buses and cable cars. April, May is fine.

This is an excellent easy walk for about 5km which is relatively flat (but not wheelchair accessible). We accessed the trail entrance from Wulingyuan park entrance by taking the Four Streams bus. Very straight forward. The landscape varies quite a lot and the best thing is that there is quite a lot of peace and quiet. Getting back was a little tricky as we had to ask around for a local bus from the Zhangjiajie entrance - this cost 10 yuan to Wulingyuan but you do need to ask around for the location of the bus station - so. E done by 4:30pm latest.

Huangshi Zhai is located in the southwest of the world natural heritage—Wulingyuan Quartz Peak-forest. Quartz sandstone distribution zone that is suitable to constitute large peak-forest starts from the northwest of Huangshi Zhai, and stretches to the northeast direction until the edge of West Sea, Maple Valley, and forms the world’s only magic large peak-forest with 20 kilometers length and 10 kilometers width. Huangshi Zhai is the largest among 3000 large peak-forests consisting of quartz sandstone. Huangshi Zhai is wide and thick with an altitude of 1,092 meters. It is high for looking the distance and wide and flat for rest. When you climb on this largest natural viewing deck and take a broad view, there are countless stone peaks and pillars, tall and straight, trying to make a figure, intensive and widely distributed. All these peaks and pillars form vast peak-forests, making people joyful suddenly and happy. If there is thick cloud covering all the peaks, flickering lofty and steep, or ethereal and fleeting, changing constantly. At this time, stone peaks and pillars seem to be firm rocks in turbulent and roaring waves on the sea, more poetical, and have the good reputation of “it is no avail of your trip to Zhangjiajie, unless you come to the summit of Huangshi Village”. Huangshi Zhai has tens of scenic spots including star gathering stage, double doors for the guest, five fingers peak, front garden and remaining piers of the heavenly bridge etc, among which, the latter two are the most famous.
There are 2 options to the top:
- At the Zhangjiajie entrance, take free bus then take Cableway to the top
- Walk up, via one end of the Golden Whip Stream (金鞭溪).
I actually came by the Golden Whip Stream. However, I decided to take the Cableway up to save time & energy. From the end of Golden Whip Stream, I needed to walk a short distance, took a free bus to the Cableway station and then bought a 2 way ticket, 118 RMB (1 way ticket 65 RMB).
As I visited in end Sep, low peak season, hence it wasn’t crowded, just a few tourist groups were there. Up at the mountain top, I was glad that all the tourist groups took the bus to the YangJiaJie Cableway station. Hence it was peaceful for my entire hike there.
At Huangshizhai, the scenery was awesome as I was actually viewing the Yuanjiajie (袁家界) area – beautiful cliffs, karsts etc. I saw a sign, translated as “If you didn’t visit Huangshizhai, you can’t claim you have come to Zhangjiajie”.
I spent more than 3 hours walking a loop along the cliff-side, with lots of viewing platforms. Note that there were monkeys at certain areas, hence be wary as they may be aggressive and snatch your food.
Overall, I truly enjoyed the peace, scenery and atmosphere, with lots of photo-shoot opportunities. Highly recommended.

I almost fell asleep watching this show mostly because of the weird extra auction thing they held at the beginning. Ticket prices were extortionist and the story was appalling. I would not recommend this unless you really want to see it. I also visited in summer which was a mistake. It is outdoors and has no fans which made the experience even more unbearable.

Yellow Dragon Cave...nice, but
doesnt look natural anymore with all the human improvements inside the cave, altering the natural landscape
granite stairs and engraved balusters throughout the whole cave system (i guess they need to do this with the big volume of local tourists passing through)
red blue green artificial lights take away the drama of nature (feels like im in a man-made cave in a theme park)

Walking across glass bridge, bucket list check. It would be best to stay in the resort town near entrance to this park. don't be confused, there are 3 different parks in the wulinglang area. all miles apart. book ahead of time transportation to get there, if take the training, the bus stations next to McDonald's in the building where a grocery store is, go in, look to back wall between the food sections and you should see armed guards next to luggage scanner, this is where you go to get the shuttle buses, and be-wary, they may just drop you off wherever they feel like. The only english they know know is,'get off the bus'
