Fernando is an awesome host! He helped make my husband's 50th birthday celebration an absolute success. He meet us in Punta de Mita, traveled by boat to the Marieta Islands, fished, snorkeled and adventured in Yelapa. We have had the opportunity of visiting Yelapa many times, however our friends had never been there before. He welcomed us all like family and even made sashimi for us with the fish we caught. Thank you Fernando and Kendra for a wonderful day! We will be back soon.

I heard many wonderful things about Yelapa, the quaint town and the beautiful beach. Perhaps too many people have heard about the many wonderful things Yelapa has to offer?
On the day we went we spent an hour haggling between two ferry boat ticket sellers, each out shouting the other. The dispute was finally settled and we got on a boat. When the boat reached Yelapa we were told that we would only be allowed to return on the ferry we had arrived on, no other ferry and that if we ate/used beach chairs at the restaurant the ferry had contracted with then we could use the chairs for free. So we started the day feeling scammed. Our fearless ferry leader offered to lead a "tour" to the waterfall for tips. We declined and followed the well marked path up ourselves. It was well marked not only because it is a footpath through town with signs pointing to a waterfall but because of the MANY tourists on the path. The waterfall itself would have been lovely if not for the loud music, throngs of people and day drinking taking place there...
We made our way down a different footpath to the beach and were greeted with lots of horse manure (we watched a local clean up his horse's manure and the tourists' horses leave manure behind on the path) and finally ended up at the beach. The nachos and limeade at our taxi driver designated restaurant were delicious, bonus! But our view (and we counted) was 60+ boats in the bay, with boats constantly coming and going making the experience the opposite of relaxing and smelly with the exhaust fumes from the boats.
When our alloted time for departure came we headed over to the loading area and had to jostle with 100+ other people also leaving but we made it on our boat! And enjoyed a lovely ride back next to a day drinker whose return ferry experience did not agree with her and the results were all over the boat.
Learn from our experience and choose somewhere else, anywhere else! For your day trip from Puerto Vallarta.

I have been in Mexico for about 3 months thinking I would stay for 1 month - :) I thought it was time to learn Spanish and I love it !!!!
What a great teacher Jeannie (Juanita) was - amazing patience, sense of humour, knew all the tricks and short cuts in teaching us for 5 whole days. Sometimes tough and so worth it - I can now speak with people in Spanish. They so appreciate that here in Mexico.
I would recommend her school 110% - well worth the overall experience of being in Yelapa, enjoying the environment and this beautiful person.

The town of Yelapa is beautiful and most of the local people are very friendly. The ride to Yelapa, likely depending on the time of day and time of year, is quite a choppy ride and you may want to consider some anti-nausea meds prior to your trip. The snorkeling variety is also likely dependent on season. Once at Yelapa, there is a cute beach and a town to visit. They will state that there is a waterfall, but if it is during the dry season (February - May), it may only be a trickle.
There are a lot of tourist "activities" that cost extra.........paragliding, kayaking, horseback riding, etc. There are also a LOT of vendors who will continually hassle you to buy their items (jewellery, take a picture with an iguana). One restaurant on the beach (Regalios) will charge extra if you are a "gringo" versus a Mexican.......and speak negatively behind your back in Spanish (not knowing that you may perfectly well be able to speak their language). Fanny's is great - good food and fair prices. We loved walking along the north path and in the town to the South.
Is it a cute trip....yes. Is it a tourist trap.....yes. You can take a taxi yourself to Yelapa for less and stay a day or two in Yelapa. Just know that the "waterfall" is dependent on the season and that you will be encouraged to spend a lot of money while relaxing on the beach.......

Capt. Luis and his deckhand Jonathan will pick you up in Puerto Vallarta or Yelapa. His boat, the IZA, is spotless and very well equipped. He will certainly put you on fish, you may catch pompano, marlin, dorado, rooster fish or sail fish.Luis will even make ceviche from the first fish that you can enjoy while fishing.
Capitain Luis runs a 1st class fishing charter. His boat Iza is in excellant condition with a center console, overhead cover, 2 fighting chairs, twin engines, new fishing gear and head. Pleanty of room for the 4 people fishing excursion. Jonathon, the deck hand was great and showed great patience and encouragement as my Fiancee's son fought his first ocean fishing catch a 2 1/2 hour battle with a 180# black marlin. The fight took so long we ran over our time a little but Capitain Luis still insisted we go for lunch in Yelapa which was great and then took us back to our pick up point in Boca. We are looking forward to another fantastic trip with Capitain Luis next year.

It's a long hike up stairs set into the mountainside. Stop frequently just to realize the wonderful world you are in! Judith can guide even the older beginners into body movement that feels healing and powerful. All this while looking out over the jungle down to the picturesque beach way down below. One of the most powerful experiences in Yelapa.

Tandem paragliding with our USHPA certified pilot taking off and landing on the beach in Yelapa. We tow you up and you release to fly free with the birds over the bay, town and beach. It's safe, fun and easy. No experience necessary
I was worried that paragliding would be difficult and scary, but Amy (and her adorable daughter) really put me at ease. Orlando strapped me in tight and Aldo, the tandem pilot, showed me all the sights of Yelapa from above. Awesome experience!

I went for Easter for a long paragliding and beach weekend and was surprised there were no other fliers except really friendly local guys who showed me the ropes.
After a 30 min walk up, great beach flying, some soaring or termals with a bit of luck and an amazing landing on the beach, with a cool cerveza and some fish tacos waiting for you. Loved the relaxed vibe and the people of Yelapa!

Moon Handbook (2011) described great $130 package which includes " transportation, 3 services and lunch" for $130. Took 2 email, and 3 phone calls to contact spa/hotel - went over details (only two services), and added cooking class - asked cost and manager specifically stated $200 each for 2 people. Received email confirm of schedule. Day of visit: nice jungle setting, but VERY basic building, VERY steep access from VERY unstable boat. Good services and nice lunch (added glass of wine each). interesting class/good chef - also bare bones setting. Final bill for day was $680!!! When I balked, spa manager (very nice!) reviewed by email with hotel manager and they finally reduced to $502 (the only extra was wine at $25.50) We compromised and paid. It was a nice day but, overall, this eco-oriented hotel/spa is not worth the big bucks it charges.
