A good stop while traveling to or from Chiang Rai. Very interesting tradition of boiling all sorts and sizes of eggs in small woven grass containers which are hung down into the boiling water of the hotspring. The area is surrounded by shops which offer good bargain prices. A nearby Cambodian Style Old Temple is also worth visiting.

This was a very enlightening and rich experience, visiting this beautiful village. This area is located within a national park. Our guide was exceptional in showing the highlights of the village and surrounding area.We walked through the lucious rainforest, featuring magnificent tall trees , and many ponds filled with teeming fish.It was a very excillerating experience. We even sighted a small snake, trying to run for cover. The people in the village, were very warm-hearted, and we able to see, at first hand, traditional hand weaving done by a woman in traditional Karon dress. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience in visiting this unique village, set in the delightfull forest.

น้ำพุร้อนแม่ขะจาน
We were driving from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai and needed to refuel the car so we were looking for a petrol station when we accidentally ran across the hot Springs at Mae Khachan.
The Springs are surrounded by tourist shops, so we decided to enjoy a morning coffee and took a ten minute rest from the driving.
The water gushes out of the Springs at near boiling point, so don't do anything silly like putting your hand in.
The whole area has a sulfur smell, but it was not particularly unpleasant.

Where to begin with this unique monastery? First it is 120 years old and run by a friendly, accessible and energetic young abbot. The most striking aspect of the monastery is the large sculptures of skeletons and grasping hands emerging from the ground. There is a splendidly disorganised collection of weapons donated by the faithful. These include a massive cannon, antique spears, swords and daggers as well as some dangerous looking maces. A number of more traditional items are there too, including some ancient Buddhas, safely kept in a steel cage. There is a lot of building going on too with an ordination hall with a royal barge on its roof, an enormous gong, and a handsome four faced Hindu god. A further oddity are large coloured stucco models of an ear, an eye, a nose and a tongue. The abbot will also establish a horoscope for you.
