Small but busy little resort. Clearly a lot of money is being invested with several luxury apartment blocks being built by the sea as well as a number of bars and restaurants. Worth a visit for a walk on the beach and perhaps lunch.

Founded in 1864 on the rugged North Devon coast, this golf course is the oldest in England and Wales and is still very popular today.
We really wanted to play this course because it is supposed to be the oldest course in England. Unfortunately they would not accept County cards from.clubs outside Devon and Cornwall. We paid £35 each which was ok.
The course was very difficult indeed. What added to the level of difficulty was that finding the fairway and next tee was not easy. There were few signs or distance markers to help visitors. We had purchased a course book, which was essential. The terrain is very undulating with hardly any flat lies. In places you had to carry a long way over bushes and gorse. Very easy to loose balls if you are not straight. To add to the difficult a stream winds its way all over the course. The corse is littered with sheep and horses.
An enjoyable day but only for the experienced golfer. We played Saunton sands golf links before this one. I preferred those courses possibly because they are not quite as difficult.

Surf school and surf hire in the centre of Westward Ho! village. Fully qualified surf instructors that will make your day special. Our shop over looks the beach, we have changing facilities and a friendly welcome. We also hire surf boards that surf incredibly well and supply warm wetsuits to make you comfortable.
I'm very new to Surfing but Pete in the shop took loads of time to explain what I might need, who to use for lessons and so on, with no hard sell at all. He clearly knows his stuff and wanted to help this 'newbee'...MoreI LOVE the way you went to the pub, came out a few sheets to the wind and decided to buy your wetsuit! See you in the water in 2018 here and together we can make the most of wonderful Westward Ho! :)

A 6 mile stroll uphill from the seaside resort of Westward Ho!, made fashionable in Victorian times by Charles Kingsley's novel. The route travels over Kipling Tor, named after another nineteenth-century novelist with Westward Ho! connections, Rudyard Kipling. Circling the high ground behind Bideford, with dramatic views as far as Lundy Island before returning along the South West Coast Path.
The coast path from Westward Ho towards Clovelley follows an old railway line at first, and is an easy walk for families. There are stunning views towards Croyde across miles of beach, with Lundy Island visible in good weather. After the path leaves WH however it becomes quite technical through wooded areas, so is best for experienced walkers as there are not many access points.
Going in the other direction towards Appledore, the path crosses the Burrows, an area of sandy dunes passing a golf course, so beware low flying golf balls!
