We will be closed on Thursday 9th, Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Mariners (Formally Lathwells) is a Grade Two listed historic building in one of Bideford's oldest streets. The building dates back to the 1700's. History tells us it has been a Mariners house, an Inn, a sowing school, a private house and now a restaurant. Mariners is small, intimate and relaxing. The table is yours for the evening. Our food is cooked from fresh to order. We pride ourselves on seasonal fish and meat from the Bay Area as far as possible. Our menu changes often with specials featuring on a daily basis. We look forward to meeting you. Booking is strongly advisable to secure a table. We are open Wednesday - Saturday from 6.30pm. Last food orders are taken at 8.30pm.
A superb evening from the friendly welcome, attentive but unobtrusive service, relaxed cosy atmosphere and of course the superb food, .my husband started with Lobster Bisque which was delicious, he then ordered Chicken Casserole with dumplings and I choose the Roast Partridge, served with a separate dish of roasted vegetables. Needless to say after having a very filling starter my husband passed on a sweet, but I indulged in Cheesecake with berries and ice cream, all washed down with a large glass of wine each and a pot of fresh coffee.
Mariners is the place to go for freshly cooked delicious food and not at an inflated price.

Winners of the Best Cafe 2012/13 from the North Devon Food Awards. Our Cream Tea has been hailed as one of the best in Devon. The Tea Room has a lovely retro style with posters, images and music from the fifties and a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Family visit with nine in the party. We opted for an outside seat. Service was very quick, efficient and friendly. Good varied menu with an excellent selection of home made cakes although the scones have to be the best and largest in the South West. The cream tea is a must do and if you have room afterwards a huge slice a cake. A definite on places to eat in the area, miss out and your taste buds will hate you forever.

We were here for a few days and decided to come here for our last night. Only people in for a while and was quiet. However, the food was delicious and home cooked. The owner, Andy, was very humorous and interesting. I would recommend the mackerel , hake and gooseberry dessert.

Friday night in Instow arms was superb, the food the service and the company. Hebbie our waitress was excellent, the food just hit the spot I had the pot of mussels as did two others my wife enjoyed the goats cheese tart the other males in the party had the most unusual dish of oxtail , apricot and black pudding just wonderful. The downside to the Instow Arms in my opinion is the range and variety of the wine list all 2s for white all reasonable priced le up the standard just like the food thank you!

We motored up from Bude, and had a Valentine's lunch here, and it couldn't have been better! It was a cold, miserable and wet day but the pub was warm and cosy! My wife had an excellent rib eye steak, and from the specials board I chose a superb Beef Curry, and I told that waitress that it was as good as an orgasm, but probably better because it lasted longer.
I understand that this pub has changed hands in recent times, so I can't compare it with what it was. All I can say is that they don't come much finer than this. It's what I would call a proper pub and it deserves to do well! Highly recommended!

We were staying at Westward Ho! and had found this restaurant and booked it before we left home as we are serious seafood fans!!!
We had a friendly welcome and the restaurant itself was well thought out. Great decor. Enormous blackboards with specials offering a huge range of different seafood dishes as well as a menu on the table. My husband chose the John Dory which came with Mediterranean vegetables and I had the scallop, crab and prawn tagliatelle. We had a side of chips ( which were to die for) and, incongruously, a bowl of peas were also offered! Luckily I think peas are the vegetable of kings so I was VERY pleased!!! We both enjoyed our meals although I did have to add seasoning to mine ( and I heard the lady on a nearby table who had the same dish saying the same thing about the need for more seasoning). However, I'd rather add seasoning to my taste than have it over seasoned in the cooking process so it worked well for me. And as you can see it didn't affect my overall high rating!
We then both ordered the 'chocolatey fudgey flapjack stack' with vanilla icecream. This was insanely rich and luscious and finished off the meal well.
I think the owners have a really good thing going here!! If we lived locally we would be regulars!!!
As we intend to return to the area early next year we will definitely be back to try something else from the wonderful menu on offer!!

Called into the Beaver tonight and we all had a really nice Sunday dinner.
It was very well cooked and with plenty of vegetables. Unfortunately we had no room for
Desert which also looked lovely. Will surly return later in the week.
Attentive friendly staff, comfy dining area overlooking the water.

Consistently delicious. Cosy & friendly independent cafe & bar, locally renowned for great tasting home-made food at reasonable prices. Open for breakfast, lunch, coffee & home-baked cakes, afternoon teas, evenings, private parties. A good range of traditional and contemporary dishes and a variety of tempting vegetarian options; sandwiches, jackets, soups, mezze & pizza etc. Fully licenced - great cocktails and sensibly selected wine list. Very child-friendly. Free wifi.
We arrived as a group of 10 and were totally looked after by friendly staff - nothing too much trouble. Delicious tapas, reasonably priced and plenty of it!! Great atmosphere and location. Would definitely return ?
