When you go for a walk around the lake Svet you will eventually find this lovely building. I thought it was a chapel or a small church as it looks like one. It is actually a mausoleum of the Schwarzenberg family. It was built between 1874 - 1877. There were 27 people buried in this mausoleum, the last burial being in 1939. You can go inside free of charge but if you want to visit the graves you have to go with a guided tour.

Trebon Castle Park is a nice English type park in May, with benches for sitting and lots of azaleas and rhodendrons. The park leads from the castle to the pond. People do not, or rather patients do not come from around the World to see the park. But they do come for a peat spa, to get buried in the smelly sludge. Doctors have some convienced this is a cure for arching joints. I tried it then showered, had a massage.

We went on two tours, the Schwarzenberg apartments and the renaissance Rosenberg rooms. Our tour guide spoke in Czech, but the English language information sheets were informative enough. Both tours were excellent. The chateau itself is a lovely example of renaissance architecture and a real delight. We really liked this visit as a complement and contrast to other Castles we had visited in the Czech Republic.

The word Svet means World in English, so man can make a tour around the World within few hours there. On the way you will come from the middle of a town into wild nature on the other side of the pond. Interesting is that the way is not the same; you’ll come through a spa park with many wood carvings. The famous Schwarzenberg’s Mausoleum is on the way as well. When you’re lucky enough, you may spot some interesting animals mostly birds (for example a kingfisher live around the pond). Anyway cyclist may use the very same way, but somewhere it is more suitable for at least cross-country bikes.
Interesting is a possibility of a boat trip, that leaves from Jakub Krcin’s monument near the brewery, so after a walk around the World, you may sail around the World as well ;-)

We took part in the guidetour (+ one beer tasting + a gift of 3 bottles of Regent beer) which is recommended. Numerous times reconstructed: in 1660 in command of family Schwarzeberg, the most extensive reconstruction in 1861-99 gave its neo-Gothic present outlook. This brewery is one of the oldest beer Breweries in the worldas it was founded in 1379. Its name, Regent, was inspired by the historic farne of knight 'the Immortal Regent' Jakub Krčín z Jelčan a Sedlčan, who started off as a Rosenberg accountant, then became regent of the large dominion of Vilém z Rožmberk, the uncrowned king of the entire Bohemian Kingdom.

At 50Kc this is a bargain! This small exhibition highlights the history of Trebon's aquaculture and livelihood, and shows the unique flora and fauna of the area. At the end there are two great videos that sum it all up nicely. Very interactive and in 4 languages. I loved it!

Great place to take a coffee and desert and make active your kids (or also yourself). This conditorei offers daily also a workshop for children (age no limited) where they can work with home-made marzipan and create different art results. The lady taking care about...MoreThanks for your visite.

You can see the city walls while you walk around the chateau Gardens. The walls' building started in the 13th century and were improved between 1525-27. There were 3 gates form the 14th century and one added in the 16th century.

The Town Hall itself worths a visit, the tower is an extra thing. From the top you can see the main square, but also the ponds around and the parks around the historical city walls. The tourist info is just 2 Steps away, there you can get more info about the hidden treasures Of Trebon.

There are many carp lakes around town of Trebon, all of them (well, 98 %) build in 16th century. So they are man made. We call them fishponds, lake sounds natural and they are not. The largest one is named "Rozmberk" after landowners "Rozmberks" (Rosenburgs). Last died in 1611. His water level area is 500 ha (originally as large as 2000 ha, but hard to manage).
Any time is nice here, lot of bikers during summer season (starting from May). Fish harvest season is from Semptember until the end of November, fishponds are drained and fish colected into long net. Carps are the main species. Fish harvest is very nice, but you must be in place very early (they start at around 7:30 a.m.) and another "run" is around midday. Men are on boats with net, some of them pull ropes on the net and slowly walk through mud in long boots.
If you are around in Southern Bohemia during that time, worth to visit!
