Overbury's Folly is architectural folly, that now serves as a recreational park located in Thalassery, south India. The folly is located on a hill near Thalassery District Court and is adjacent to the stadium. It slopes down from the sub-collector's bungalow to the rocks below and is named after its builder, E. N. Overbury, a Briton who served as a local judge at Thalassery in the 1870s.In 1879, Overbury wanted to construct a picnic spot at the cliff. He couldn't complete it, but the spot later earned the name "Overbury's Folly". The folly commands sweeping views of the Arabian Sea.Today, Overbury's Folly has been renovated and redecorated as a tourist attraction. It is frequented by local people in the evenings as a place to relax. A seaside open-air coffee shop also works occasionally opens on the folly.
We stopped here during a day tour of Thalassery. It was an amazing view. Many couples were there so it's quite a romantic spot.

The Jagannath temple near Thalassery was constructed by the great social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru, in 1908. Non-Brahmins perform the pooja and rituals here. Since the 1920s, it has also allowed entry to the scheduled castes, when other temples prevented them from entering even the temple compound.

Mahe is unlike Puducherry, though a former French colony, it doesn't have any French monuments or remarkable heritage sites. The Tagore Park is the only place where tourists can relax and spend some time by the seaside.
It is better to spend time in the evening to view the sunset over Arabian sea.

Similar to the French Catholic church, this church is also located within the premises of Thalassery fort near the sea. It was built in 1869 after the British captured the fort from the French. It is a small white structure which has been restored recently.

This church and the Thelassery fort were initially built by the French to protect their spice trade at Mahe (Pondicherry) nearby. It is a small church, located behind the Thelassery fort adjacent to the sea. Though the fort was partly destroyed during British attack and Tipu Sultan's invasion, the church wasn't affected much.

Sea facing centenary park is located in Thalasserry jus opposite to the court and the muncipal office. It is well maintained, no entry fees and it's an ideal location for a stop over on the tedious journey though this area. We can see the sea from this area and seats are provided for relaxation. A small children's park like play area is an added advantage for the kids out there. Altogether it's a good location to have fun at..
