Toutist information signs are posted along the way and finally you’ll come to a tourist information sign which points left for the Tomb of Toshinaga Maeda and right for the Zuiryuji Temple. They have a nice walkway with nicely trimmed pine trees, statues, benches for relaxing, etc. This temple is a designated national treasure, the only national treasure in Toyama prefecture. 500-yen to enter.

I made it a one day trip from Kyoto although I gotta spent about 7 hour on the train. The train from Takaoka to Amaharashi station was Ninja-Hatori train, well it's really cute. On the way there, the train went along the beach and that made the ride more interesting.
At the beach, it's very hot but the weather was very good. Unlucky that the sky was not so clear so I couldn't see Takayama mountain range from the beach which I saw once in a photo that took me here.
The beach was really peaceful and the view was amazing. I just love it.
If you have time I'd recommend staying here for a night or two waiting for the sky to be clear so you can see the mountain range rise from the sea.

Manyosen Tram line from Takaoka Station (not the Shinkansen station) to Koshinokata, near the Toyama Bay, operate Doraemon Train. The Doraemon Blue body and the pink door! Doraemon anime characters inside the train, too. It is a really fun tram ride. Manyosen operates one Doraemon Tram, so you have to check with their timetable. The Doraemon operation timetable changes frequently, due to maintenance. In general the trams, Doraemon Tram and other trams, run every 15 minutes. The old one-car type trams are also picturesque!
Why Doraemon Tram in Takaoka? The writer of the Doraemon anime, Fujio F. Fujiko was born in Takaoka.

A nice open area with a small temple on site. No entrance fee, open everyday. It is considered among the top three Buddhas along with the ones in Nara and Kamakura.

Takaoka Kojo park is a lovely place in the city's downtown. Situated on the site of the former Takaoka Castle it boasts ponds and shadowed alleys, small Zoo and the sports' activities' grounds. It's beautiful any time of the year , but in spring when the cherry trees are blossoming the park looks absolutely fantastic. The pink and white cherry trees are everywhere and when one's strolling through the park it feels like floating on the clouds. Last visited April, 2004.

Only parts of the moats and castle walls remain. The castle was destroyed and never re-built because of the one castle per domain during the shogunate era. Many things to see – a shrine, statues, nice forested, peaceful walkways, etc. An easy walk from the train station, just past the Takaoka Great Buddha.

A peaceful shrine well situated in the center of the pleasant park. Though the shrine is meaningful for locals, there are no English signboards for foreigners.

Kanayamachi is the place of the “Senbon Lattice”(1,000 frontages of latticed wood) and is the birthplace of the foundry industry in Takaoka, which dates back over 400 years.
Interestingly, it is set alongside a river and on the other side of the river from the main city. This allows water in the case of a fire and also prevents the fire spreading to the main parts of the city.
Quaint traditional houses line the cobbled streets which feature copper inserts which look like the cobble stones, hearts and stars. The area is also decorated with many bronze statues. This makes the town a photogenic delight.
I visited the small museum to see the foundry process and then "Gallery Ohtera" where I chatted with the owner and sat drinking matcha and nibbled traditional sugared almond biscuits. The people were very friendly and the interior of the building looks like ancient Japan
While some of the foundry offerings are expensive, you can see they are very good quality and would last forever.
It is a 10 minute drive from JR Shin-Takaoka station, or 30 minutes by bus on Katsukihara Route (from South Entrance Bus Stop).
