The Raja Ampat Islands are stunning both above and below the water’s surface.
The Islands have many, many secluded coves and isolated Beaches where you can have a quiet, personal swim, sunbathe, snorkel, bbq, etc. They all remind me of the Thai Islands in the Andaman sea (Phi Phi, Bond, etc.) but better because there are next-to-no tourists.
Underwater you can find the world’s best diving and snorkeling. The reefs come right up to shore and are very very shallow which is great for shore snorkels with kids.
The scuba diving is spectacular. The reefs are vibrant and FULL of fish. The coral appears to be very healthy and supports an incredible diversity of marine life. Both big and small animals can be found in abundance. A short list of “more interesting” things is: pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, turtles, multiple kinds of sharks, manta rays, eels, wobegongs, walking sharks, map puffers, porcupines, huge lobsters, giant clams, dolphins, marlins.
Interesting things aside, the most impressive thing is the sheer number of fish. The schools are absolutely massive. I’ve never seen so many fish... ever.
We did a 8 day, 19 dive liveaboard trip with Scuba Froggy (I’ve reviewed them as well). The experience was amazing. The only comparable diving I’ve done has been in Fiji.
I fear with rising ocean temperatures and other factors like pollution and increased tourism, Raja Ampat won’t be this amazing forever.
If you’re considering a dive trip, strongly consider visiting the Raja Ampat Islands and doing it soon while it’s as good as I’ve described.

Visit this fisherman's village in Raja Ampat to feel the hospitality of the locals and interact with them. You can do fish feeding here, or snorkel around the island to see the beautiful underwater life. You can even see the famous Cendrawasih bird, but it had to be done early in the morning and its not a guaranteed show because the bird's appearance is quite random.

When we decided to dive in Raja Ampat aboard the Jaya, we knew, because of the price, that we could not expect a first class service. Any liveaboard diving trip has specific aspects to evaluate:
-The trip plan was very good, but was limited because of the bad weather.
- Diving logistics: the ship is not very well prepared to allow the divers to put on the equipment. Tanks are filled with variable final pressure, some time below 180 bar, which is no good for the diving group.
The diving gears are not washed during the whole trip.
- Diving guides and briefings: perfect. Very good guides, experienced and safe. One can rely on them. Special mention to Rachel, Emma and Matt. They know very well their job and are always watching for your safety
- The ship: the rooms at the Jaya are in a lower level at the front of the boat. They are very small making difficult for more than one person to be standing at the same time. By fortune, there are individual air conditioners that make possible to sleep in a fresh environment.
Toilets, located in the back lower level, are terrible. Only three of them for all the people on board. Allways dirty and wet floors look very disgusting.
Should you go to the toilet at night, you have to use a ladder to go up to the main deck, and other ladder down to the lower back side, crossing the kitchen. A long way if you are sleepy.
On board you are bare feet, which is ok, but the floors are slippery making them very dangerous.
-food: average, nothing special but ok.
-Crew: very friendly and smiling trying to make your trip better.

We take a trip 10 day 9 night organized by Deni Malingkas’ Raja Ampat Adventures. The trip was liveaboard using diesel powered traditional wooden boats and supported with a speed boat. We do the trip at 2-12 april 2017 and there are 9 guests on the boat with 4 crew, 1 captain, and Deni as the lead guide, so there are 15 people in total. The room for sleeping was comfort enough and the food was good. On the upper deck of the boat is a just perfect place to spent the time enjoying the beautiful scenery of rajaampat during the trip. The journey itself starting from sorong, Deni teams pick up us when we landed in Sorong and transfer to the boat. The itinerary are Sorong-Kabuy Bay-The Passage-Bat-Island-Wayag-Pianemo-Fam-Arborek-Manta sandy-Mansuar-Kri-Batanta-back to Sorong. We spent 3 night in Wayag, as Wayag is the main attraction in Rajaampat. Most of the activity during the trip are snorkeling, but we can also do diving. Some of guest travelling with us was diving with the local dive operator in Kri island, where the other guest can do snorkeling or just relaxes on the beautiful beach. We really happy can join this trip.We really recommend everyone to join one of Rajaampatadventures trip.

It is indeed a potential natural tourist destination. The main problem is its cleanliness. I bet the local government put a very little attention to this attractive destination.
But you will be cheered by its serenity, the calm waves, and also nice sunset.
Better go there on weekdays because in weekend it will be fully filled with locals, unless you want to have fun with them.
