A cultivated desert garden where the graves of the former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion and his wife Paula sit at the edge of a steep cliff overlooking the magnificent landscape of the Zin Canyon and the Avdat highlands. The paths leading to the graves pass through a cultivated garden with indigenous plant life that thrives in the arid climate and saline conditions of the desert. Ben Gurion’s hut on Kibbutz Sde Boker has been preserved as it was on the day that he died, and it is open to visitors who wish to learn more about him. The national park has a picnic area, gift shop, hiking and camping equipment, an information center and cafeteria. The park is accessible to people with disabilities and is open throughout the day.
David Ben Gurion is one of the main characters to which we owe the State of Israel.
If you are on your way to Eilat or the Negev, it is very easy to stop at Sde Boker and visit the place.
Anyway the trip is very long to Eilat and you should take a break.
In itself there is not really anything thrilling or amazing ...
But the place is historically very important and you can there reflect on the past and destiny of the Jewish people, from the destruction of the 2nd Temple, thru the diaspora and finally the rebirth of the State of Israel, against all the odds, the pogroms, the efforts of an entire world to annihilate them, from the least civilized to the most civilized, meaning the Holocaust.
If Theodore Herzl was the visionary character, David Ben Gurion was the one to make it real....

We went on a half day tour of the Ramon crater with Yehuda and it was marvellous! He is a fascinating person and extremely knowledgeable, and shared many scientific, philosophical, and historic insights about the region. He takes his jeep in places we could not have imagined and our tour combined stunning vistas with fascinating history and geology. Highly recommend his tour!

In the heart of the desert, on a hilltop above the Tsin Stream watercourse, are the impressive remains of an ancient Nabatean city.
This is about the deep desert oasis hike that is below the Nabatean city ruins. It's in a deep valley and there is flat walking through lush shrubbery to the oases. It's quiet and peaceful and idyllic... until the tour group busses arrive.

The activity takes about 3 hours from the moment you arrive till the moment we bring you safely back to your car. We all get together at 6:00 in the morning and park the private cars in an organized parking lot next to the takeoff spot. After inflating the balloon we take off for about 60 min of a magical flight. At landing point we will open a bottle of Champagne and hand out a golden certificat
To celebrate a birthday, we ordered a private hot air balloon ride over the Negev Desert. What an experience!! We arrived at sunrise to hot tea, coffee, cookies and to watch the team fill the balloon. As the day lightened, we climbed into the intimate basket (there are larger balloons and baskets for up to 18 people) and floated up into the sky. The view was magnificent! Our guide, Moran, explained the workings of the balloon and told tales of the land we flew over. We descended into a dry river bed and flew over an olive grove and a plantation of solar panels. When we landed, we were ready to go up again! Over Israel flies from a number of different areas in the country, particularly the south, both for private tours and for (less expensive) group tours which individuals and couples can join. HIGHLY recommended!

Directed to the Rota Winery by our guesthouse host, and after a few wrong turns, we found wonderful, dry red wine and a very accomodating and welcoming owner, Erez Rota. The tasting area is in a large shipping container which was initially curious, but after tasting several of his wine vintages, it didn't matter - - they were very good!! We purchased two bottles that we enjoyed over the next few days. If I am ever in that same area, I will make a point of visiting this winery again and enjoying their wine. As an aside, he is also a sculptor and has a "Sculpture Garden" you can walk around.
