Sandown is a seaside resort town and civil parish on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, England, which neighbours the town of Shanklin to the south, with the village of Lake in between the two settlements. Sandown Bay is the name of the bay off the English Channel which both towns share, and it is notable for its long stretch of easily accessible golden sandy beach. It is the site of the lost Sandown Castle. Whilst undergoing construction, this was attacked by a French force which had fought its way over Culver Down from Whitecliff Bay, resulting in the French being repulsed. It was built too far into the sea and constantly suffered erosion, until now reduced to a pile of rocks. Later forts in the town include the Diamond Fort (named after its plan), built inshore to replace the castle and which fought off a minor attack from privateers (probably French) in 1788, and the present "Granite Fort" at Yaverland, which is now the zoo. Together with Shanklin, Sandown forms a built up area of 21,374 inhabitants.

This all-weather recreation of the Amazon rainforest houses over 200 species of animals and birds.
Very informative and interesting exhibits love all the animals there maybe need a new exhibit to make it more appealing to people. I repeat again if seen it once don't need to see again.

Spent some happy hours here , hiring sunbeds etc from the customer service expert Steve . Apprentices should be made to visit this beach and shadow Steve to see how he treats even the most difficult of customers like Kings and Queens always with a smile . Thanks Steve great to see old fashioned customer care .

The Isle of Wight Zoo is home to one of Britain's largest collection of tigers, many of whom are rescue animals. With several superb new enclosures modeled on natural tiger habitats in India, the zoo is a fantastic place to see these wonderful animals relaxing. A number of other animals also live there, including lemurs, jaguars and lions. Family friendly with disabled access throughout.
We went here in August 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed it we loved meeting all the big cats and many more animals the staff were helpful and polite and happy to answer any questions you have I certainly recommend going here we are going back this year we enjoyed that much .

In a spectacular pterosaur shaped building watching over Sandown’s blue flag beach is Britain’s first purpose built dinosaur museum. Walk back through fossilised time to the period of the dinosaurs where you will find amongst the fossils many interactive displays. On a recreated landscape enhanced by sights, smells and sounds you will meet life sized dinosaurs including our animatronic Neovenator. Guided fossil hunts (which must be pre-booked) have proved to be a popular addition to a visit.
Our young children loved it. Pick up a fossil box at reception it's very inexpensive, then in the museum you can pick a shark tooth and other bones to glue into your boxes as a keepsake. There are activity sheets and hands on exhibits. With plenty of knowledgable people about to talk to about fossils and dinosaurs.
Upstairs they even have a comfy area for very young children and colouring in to keep them busy.
You must book a fossil walk. We took the Yaverland one which on th doorstep but I'd love to try the other areas too. Your very enthusiastic and knowledgable guide will keep you busy the whole time. Make sure you take buckets to bring back your finds.
You can use your Tesco clubcard boost here so very affordable. All of ththe staff are very friendly and helpful.

We visited this bar whilst on a holiday to the Isle of Wight. Great atmosphere within the bar, very friendly staff a a good selection of beers. You can order food from the cafeteria opposite the bar which is brought to your table in the bar. We will definitely visit again, probably in the summer.

This is a lovely nursery with very healthy plants. All the plants that we have bought have all grown well and visitors to our garden have all remarked on them. The owner is really wonderful and will always help you choose the best plant. If you want a little souvenir for your garden then it is well worth a visit.
