Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. A short 3/4 day trip from southern Austria brought me to this cave system which is really very big so expect ot use a bit of time for the tour and the visitor centre. Also, don't underestimate what you will find here. The visitor centre is very high tech and informative with presentation methods and technology as good as any museum.
The cave tour takes a while and if you want to do the caves and castle, you will need to arrive early for the first cave tour. Cave tours take a bit of time but are exciting and informative and involve both a train ride and walking. Unfortnately, they are not suitable for all people with disabilities due to the nature of the caves.
Overall, well worth seeing and one of the reasons that I think Slovenia is very underated.

The area which Rakov Škocjan covers is vast and amazing. Its beautiful natural structures full of greenery are beyond beautiful and completely for free. Situated allaround but easily accessible by car or by foot. There is no reason not to walk it through as it is easy to follow paths or main sand road. Signalization is clear and informative. On the way you can stop at natural Bridges, bathing areas, picnic places and lots of shade. Forestry surrounding it is sublime. Just be sure to take drinks and food with you as this is not taken care of. Have lots of fun.

Predjama Castle is situated in the middle of a towering cliff, a mere 9 km from Postojna Cave. Picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable, it has been dominating the surrounding area, perched high up in the 123-metre high cliff, for more than 800 years. It is listed among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle in the world. Check the timetable of visits by months.
Like many Americans, our lack of Castles at home makes them a draw for us when traveling around Europe. As a result we have been fortunate to visit Castles in the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy. This means that when we visit a new country, we tend to be a bit picky, looking for something that is a bit unique. And Predjama definitely fills that description! All you have to do is look at the front and you instantly think why one would even THINK to attack this fortress without artillery! Very appreciative of the staff when we were there off-season as they recommended we actually leave the castle to first go to the caves at Postojna and THEN come back to the castle to make the best of our time available. Bottom line, though, if you have time, a visit inside is definitely worth it, with a good display of period items in a truly unique setting - you'll never find another castle like it!

The Pivka Cave and the Black Cave are the final two caves along the subterranean Pivka River before the river finally disappears and resurfaces in the Planina Cave. The Pivka Cave entrance is located 5 km from the Postojna Cave. The 65-metre deep entrance can be reached by walking 317 steps. Electric illumination is provided along the tourist path. The path takes visitors along the Pivka River towards the Black Cave, after which they get back to the surface and return through a forest. The tour takes an hour and a half, no special equipment is needed.

Turisticno informiranje in prodaja lokalnih turisticnih spominkov/ Tourist information and shop with local souvenirs
Fortunately I didn't get too lost on my way from the station to the caves. Would've been useful if this was open but I understand Sunday isn't a normal day. Very easy to find in the centre of Postojna.

My friends and I went looking for an afternoon of adventure, and got just that!! At 19€/person, you have unlimited climbing access to all kinds of challenging obstacles. After a safety intro, we felt more than ready to jump on the course. What a workout!! We lasted about 2 hours before arm fatigue got the best of us. The course is split into 5 levels of difficulty. If you are fit and looking for a challenge, don't wait to do the hard red level obstacle at the end, as many require fresh arms and significant upper body strength. The Chuck Norris rope and the horse shoes are by far the most difficult obstacles. Sunglasses are fine to wear. Plan for 2-2.5 hrs to enjoy. We had a blast, and I will be back!

The exhibition combines the presentation of the physical karst and human life in the karst, from the earliest settlements to the development of cave tourism and caving, as well as special adjustments that were dictated by the stony karst landscape, which are today, among other things, reflected in the remarkable architecture.
Given that there isn’t a lot going on in the town, the chances are that you will have a bit of spare time after / before visiting the caves or the castle, so this is a good way to fill in an hour, even if you are not particularly interested in the Karst. The exhibits are well presented and clearly explained and the young lady working there was particularly friendly and helpful. There are some imaginative areas and it was excellent value for money, although you only need an hour to get around everything. The museum is still very new and it is right in the town centre.

A big selection of information in several different languages covering a lot of western Slovenia. From dining out to climbing Mountains, they can point you in the right direction. A bonus is that they also sell localy produced artisan souvenirs, a nice touch. The only minus that could be improved would be if they would sell tickets to the cave and the castle there as well.
